Where are the ethanol free gas stations around town?
They have them on the cold/dense air-free highways.
Drag force = 1/2 * rho * v^2 * A * Cd
Pay attention to rho. It’s the density of the medium which you’re traveling through, aka air.
(P1V1)/T1 = (P2V2)/T2 aka the ideal gas law.
If we assume air to be an ideal gas (close enough) then if the temp changes from 80F to 20F aka 60*F or about 11% absolute, then you can feed everything back up to drag force. It’s all linear so you wind up with an 11% increase in drag force. Combine that with more idling to keep warm or start the car in the morning, winter blend gas, stop and go when it snows, etc and there’s your 10-20% fuel economy loss in winter. Happens every year.
At least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. I notice it every year anyway.
After this morning’s drive, I’m sure my gas mileage on this tank will be terrible. lol. Other than that, I actually got like 320 miles on an 11 gallon tank on my last fill. I think 29mpg is much better than I usually do.
I guess I ass-u-med he meant worse than normal winter conditions but, yeah your mileage will almost always decrease around here in winter.
I get gas at Delta all the time now because for some reason Im averaging 5mpg more than going to mobil or sunoco. I started noticing this in the middle of summer tho when I was just driving my one car mainly back and forth to work. I went to mobil and sunoco for gas a bunch of other times to confirm this with the same results.
I have always noticed horrible mpg with mobile gas. I avoid them any time possible
im getting 27-30mpg which is normal for me and the way i drive
wait, you guys actually track your gas mileage this closely?
My car tells me.
Not to mention all the donuts.
where are you finding non ethanol gas in WNY… last I heard there was a push from local government and everyone was switched. velero (valero) whatever the fuck it is, was the last place I knew, scratch that… kwik fill on river road was the last place I knew that sold pure gasoline and even they caved and went to ethanol gas. I would love to know where I can buy pure gas.
checked here:
http://pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=NY
but nothing is worth the drive lol…
some valeros still have it without ethanol as far as I know (could be wrong wrong wrong) lol
I guess they have to put the warnings on the pumps? A valero opened in the falls not long ago, and last I knew they werent putting it in the gas. I noticebly get gas less when I use thier gas as apposed to sonoco.
I was getting gas from this ghetto arab station (not in the ghetto just shit was budget) during the summer he didnt use it, then he made the switch, and went from great gas, to what has to be the crappiest lawn mower gas ever.
I’m guessing out here in North Collins its “pure gas”, the pumps are old as fuck (no credit card swipers) and there is no Ethanol label on the pump, they have 93 as well…
when i get gas in the city i get worse mileage than out here in boston/eden.
maybe its a supply/demand deal where the places that use most gas get the worst fuel.
could just be me.
u wont find one because it is required to have at 10% ethanol in all gasoline
Im in Myrtle Beach and the same thing is happening on my Z(jeep and mustang are both the same lately) I’ve taken the z out a few times where I was averaging 22ish now I’m at 16.5…
So can’t just be a cold weather thing, no leaks fresh tuneup and filter done…
on that pure gas site I linked you can join the petition for stations to sell pure and blended gas…
yup
I’ve been down too…
mine has been the same at good ol’ 14mpg lol
