Anyone ever had any luck with a Saturn Sky??

I have a lot of young friends who spend a lot of money on nice cars (I’m not one of them, clearly. I drive a sensible 98 Honda civic)

ANYWAY what I was getting at, I have had numerous friends and aquantiances own s2000s, miatas, ect ect

I know 2 people that own, or have owned a sky/redline. 1 is a friends mom. 1 is a female bartender at a local watering hole, and its automatic. She clearly has a great taste in vehicles, and I’m willing to wager her dad (who prob works at American axle) had a ton of input on her purchase

Theyre sensible, cozy for old people 2 seater “sports” cars. I bet the majority of them are automatic

I would take an MX5 over a Sky any day. If the day comes that you start wishing you had gone with more power:

He’s in his late 50’s, and just looking for a car to have some fun with when it’s nice out. I also keep forgetting he’s not looking for a raw “driver’s car” like I would be. I’m sure he’ll keep it stock besides maybe some window tints, there’s no way he would ever engine swap or turbo a car. And you’re right, my uncle worked for Chevy for 30+ years, so they like to keep him happy LOL.

The MX5 is on his list too, we drove a couple of them recently. He wasn’t too impressed with them.

The Sky just doesn’t feel like a sports car at all, especially with the top up. There’s no exhaust note. The dashboard looks almost identical to my mom’s Impala. It’s slow and doesn’t handle well. All 3 that we have driven had under 8,000 miles on them, which kind of makes me wonder why people don’t drive them.

I was just wondering if they all suck or if we were just having bad luck. Seems like most people don’t like them but the people that have them and actually drive them do.

I think he’s going back to the dealer tonight to look at the z4.

How much power do you wanna make-

Fastest LNF- 10.99@ 133.6mph(27psi), 612 whp sae (34psi)

You can mod any of these cars to get more power but the LNF is a solid platform to start with.

Ive been in a solstice, it was ok. It was tight, no rattles, handed good. But it was small for me, I’m 6’

Ive never rode in any others mentioned but I’d probably pick a s2k.

edit: numbers are based off cobalt ss LNF, I assume its the same set up in the redline.

Were they the Turbo models? 260hp stock in a light car. And mine has exhaust note. I’m thinking that you were looking at 2.4 models based on that.

We’ve been in 2 NA Skys and 1 turbo Solstice (same thing…). He loves the way the car looks but other than that we haven’t been impressed so far.

I love the informative comments in this thread

I’m not sure how you can say a sky redline is slow and doesn’t handle well. I haven’t driven one but my impression is that they are quite good ‘drivers cars’. The only experience I do have with them is knowing that the solstice version is very competitive in national level stock-class autox with the s2k in turbo form and with the mx5 in n/a form. The sky may be slightly softer and heavier but not much. The z4 is no match for the turbo solstice/s2k.

I have driven a Z4M and a sky redline. Sky glides through corners compared to the tight BMW cornerning. But really those are two different price points. I haven’t driven a 4 cylinder Z4.

Regarding the exhaust, you could just pick up a magnaflow system for $500 bucks off ebay. But stock it has a decent rumble for a 4 banger.
