anyone have experience with bazooka subs?

hey guys, just like to get opinions…i’m a NOOB with subwoofer/amp hookups…anyway…i just purchased(online, futureshop) an 8" bazooka amplified sub(model: TA850C). I bought this mainly because my s14 has sub/amp wires setup(previous owner had a sub/amp setup n just unplugged his subs/amp when he sold me the car, so live wires, he had two 10" and i believe one amp…).

so yea, this 8inch seems to be the best way to conserve trunk space since it is amplified(saving the need to have a separate amp = more space taken up)…

I"m just lookin for a little bit of bass, something that sounds decent…i dont blast music in my car…so a big baller setup is not what i need…but I mean…for anyone who’s had experience with these subs have any opinion on them based on my needs? and also, install of this sub is supposed to be simple…but from reviews i’ve read, most ppl hooked them up to stock speaker wiring…so would this work with the sub/amp wires in my car?

ok…i got the sub today…it’s pretty good…one problem though…is there a way to control the sub completely separately from the speakers? in my deck i can raise the sub up n down…but at it’s max, it’s pretty quiet…and when i raise the volume on the rest of the speakers, the sub volume goes up as well…but then to get the sub at a nice bass, the speakers are too loud…and if i put the “bass” up, it goes up on the speakers as well and makes the speakers rattle…

would i HAVE to get a separate equalizer to control these 100% separately? right now i disabled the rear speakers(one isnt workin anyway), and put the balance more towards the rear, this way the fronts are quieter at louder “volume settings” and the bass is nice as well…but i’d like full surround sound lol…any ideas besides gettin an equalizer? i dont want to get one since it’ll have to replace my DIN dash pocket, which i love lol

Edit: this might belong in the tech section now that it’s not just an opinion on the sub since i got it…more of a technical question i guess…

ok well there is a volume control on the unit its self. but to be honest you are not going to get nice sounding responsive bass out of that. It will distort.

That is all
