Anyone have vag com software/MK3 jetta exp.

There is a guy at work that might be offloading a VW jetta for cheap because he can’t get it to run right. I guess he has tried cap n rotor, wires etc… I guess it starts, then runs real rough and dies.

I’m guessing its mid to late 90’s
He’s an older guy that I am betting hates most things computerized.

I don’t have any details other than what I stated and that he will be looking for me. One way or another he will get rid of his car.

I have done some digging and seen that people have problems with the ignition systems. I also read all the techies want a vag com output before trying to troubleshoot anything.

Try dubs in the buff.

I have a co-worker whose husband is a VW mechanic. lmk if u want me to put you in contact with him

The “vag-com software” is free. You need the accompanying hardware to use it.

There are vag-com locators on the big sites.

A locater says eMKay has one in buffalo

All my be for naught if he wants more than a few hundred for the car

Badnewsmini has one, hes helped out alot of members on here…

as long as its 94 and up Vag com will work… falling on its face sounds like a vacum leak, egr problem… is it throwing a Code?

Am I the only one who thought this thread should be NWS by the title?

Not a clue.
I received all my informatoin 2nd hand.

I’ll get more details tomorrow.

It might make for a nice summer project if I destroy my cav again.

well let me know if you want to take it to PM’s thats fine.I work in NT so i probibly drive by you :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks

Ok, its a 98 Wolfsburg with 130k.

He has replaced plugs, wires, coils and swapped in a used ECU.

After all that it started then ran really rough and died. Now it does not start.
He also told me that years ago, he had the distributor replaced and that got it running again.

I’m trying to get him to find out if his mechanic kept the old ECU, as it might store codes(I hope it would)

My problem now, is that he thinks I might be able to fix it and might be willing to
pay me to fix it… LOL… Am I a terrible salesman/customer or what?

How much would it be worth if it ran? It could be fun if I bought a wolfsburg like MrSmith might.

Those cars have distributors???

maybe its a MAF issue…

and emkay doesnt have the Vag com anymore

car-part has one for $40 with 6 month warranty

not much if you cant get it for less then 500 walk away.

the car in running driving condition is only worth 1500-2000, the MK3’s dont hold much value unfortunately or i would flip more of them :stuck_out_tongue:

Looks like I will get to see it monday. If his mechanic is done trying to “fix” it anyway.

Ok, so the thing just about starts and runs, but quickly starts running rough and dies out. I’m told that as soon as the ECU was replaced it started and ran fine for a few minutes. Then died out and is in its present state.

If I thought It was worth $1500 with bald tires, no e brake etc… I would buy the thing.

If it is a relatively simple and “guaranteed” fix, he would be just as happy to keep driving it.

Any thoughts?

:io: <–You

i’ll give him $300 for it

make sure the maf is plugged in, make sure there are no vac leaks, ect…

at least thats what it sounds like?

Is there a relatively easy way to find vacuum leaks?
