My whitewater alarm went off!
I go out on the river… a few canals
I have the MOST basic plastic kayak, and i go out with a buddy with a collapsible one.
I love the Idea of a fold up kayak, when we leave the house he just throws it in the back of his car, I have to strap mine to the roof…
but then when we get to the water i just rip mine down throw it in the water put my paddle together and im ready to go… he takes about 15min to assemble.
then when we get done we have to wait a min make sure his dry enough (have a beer) then tare it down… it takes him a bit longer then it does me to strap it to the roof.
the other issue is he CANT do shallow water he ripped it once already in tonawanda creek. kinda bummer.
I picked one up last year. Where are some decent places to paddle and still easily get back to the car when done?
There is a launch down in the first ward right on the river. When I scoop mine up, we should go check it out.
Sounds good to me
Riverfront Park, River Fest Park on Ohio st, and you can also put it in on the little beach on Erie st. All had plenty of parking. The Buffalo river is always calm. I just started last season and need to get it out more.
That’s exactly where I am referring to. I maintain the floors in that museum they just built in that park. We should def have a gathering there to do some paddling once I pick mine up.
Yeah, I just got myself into it and went for a second time yesterday. Such a blast. Swam 3 times and learn from each one of the times. lol
While I dont kayak really anymore, I still get into whitewater.
Here is me dropping into a huge hole/Class 4 rapid last month:

Awesome!! I’m loving the kayaking since you are in the water and not on the water. (I’m sure you fully understand that comment) haha Although the water hasnt been up yet, its been a great teaching lesson on the lower waters. Most of my swims have been messing around trying to learn certain things in certain areas over and over. One was while trying to surf on a rapid… the boat went under the water, held it for a while but didnt know which way it would be spit out of the rapids. Sure enough I was on the wrong ass cheek when it turned and I was in. haha
Still need to practice rolling but for now I’ll give it a try once if I flip and pull if it doesn’t work.
Sounds like plans to do the Salmon River in Pulaski, NY this weekend Sunday. Possibly running it twice. It is a Dam release location that has Class I-II-III. Fun place to go as I’ve now been twice. We are probably camping over night and starting earlier around 9-10am. Anyone else do white water anything and care to join, PM or reply. We have about 5 or 6 of us going right now.
