Anyone know anything about flat and cross plane cranks?

I’ve been wondering for a while what a cross plane inline 4 would sound like, since a flat plane V8 sounds like two I4’s (a la Ferrari 355,360, etc… and Lotus TTV8) would a cross plane I4 have some of the characteristic burble of a typical domestic V8?

Does anyone know of a cross plane 4 cylinder even existing? I’d love to hear one

weird… i think it would sound amazing, you’d have each cylinder firing at a different time rather than 1&3, 2&4 etc… so if it was a 16 valve you’d also have only 2 exhaust valves open at once instead of 4, but twice as often… :rolleyes:
