Now so far the SR starts every time, no leakage, everything seems ok, until i start driving. mind you all i have is a downpipe with a resonator, but it sounds like a v8 everything inside vibrates like hell when i start to accelerate, im hoping its the no exhaust part.
Another thing is when i start to pull, my damn pipes come off somewhere, first time cause i forgot to clamp them down, my bad.
but the other time it just slipped off the rubber connector.
is this normal shit im getting here?
your I/C pipes are flared or no? make sure you flare them and clap them well so this doesn’t happen.
Sounds like a V8? thats not very descriptive… does the engine shake a lot or is it smooth? what engine/tranny mounts are you using?
have you checked you are firing on all 4 cylinders?
Ok well yes the pipes are flared all but on place and yes that place has already come off.
when im at idle and looking at engine, No it doesnt shake, its quite smooth at idle, when i drive however i cant see if it shakes or not.
I’m using SR engine mounts, fairly new from a 98 180sx.
and I think im firing on all 4 havnt checked really.
my sr sounded like a v8 when i was running on 2 cylinders
ways to check it:
plug out ur coil packs one by one to see if it changes it’s idle or not.
so 1st… then put it back in, 2nd then put it back in, 3d, put it back in… etc…
if the idle doesn’t change when u plug out one of those coil packs, then u didn’t hook up ur ignitor chip correctly.
also, u say that it sounds like a v8, but does it accelerate pretty well, or does it feel like it’s ridiculously slow?
also, u ARE running stock exhaust right?
Ill check this weekend if all cilinders are working
its not too slow but i havent really pushed it yet
no ive got NO exhaust, just downpipe.
its probobly since you have no exaust man… if the engine is not shaking, chance is 95% that its on all 4cyl. Good swap man, nice work.
also its not for sure that the ignitor chip is the problem, could be a faulty ecu, bad fuel injector, ignitor chip, spark plug, coil pack, list goes on and on.
yeah i bet the list does go on, and sooner or later i will have most of it if not all replaced, but first things first, get an exhaust put on and see how it reacts.
thanks
if the engine isn’t shaking, its most likely running on all 4cyl. SR is a very deep sounding engine by nature, sounds mean and throaty even stock. Dont worry about it too much man… try to take a video or something for me and i can help you more accuratly
well i hope thats what it sounds like cause i like it just hopefully not as loud, and hopefully its just the effect without an exhaust
thanks
mine sounded like ass when they turbo flange gasket had blown. It was REALLY! LOUD!!!
It sounds like the same problem you had Nik.
for sure!
when the car is idleing go put your hand around the flanges in your car and see if you can feel exhaust.
but be careful! only do this when the car has just turned on bcause in about 3 minutes its really hot!! and if you accidentally touch a flange, it real hurts.
check: exhaust manifold —> turbo flange.
Turbo outlet —> downpipe flange.
downpipe —> Cat.
