I really haven’t been that into autocrossing since Jillian was born. I think I went to 2 maybe 3 events last year. It’s really hard to justify an entire Sunday for 5 minutes of racing now that I’ve got a kid. So I can’t see buying another set of super sticky but fast wearing tires. The Ventus RS2’s were great, very similar to the Azenis in terms of grip, but that super soft compound got ripped up in a hurry with my heavy foot on the street.
well i just got back from sweet home. drove the kuhmos.
they suck.
but i am basing this on azenis rt615s and spring/summer/fall conditions, not half an inch of ice
Jay, I know exactly what you seem to be looking for in a tire…And for the price, I’d say the SPT is a great tire for you. The people on here don’t realize that when you come to auto-x, yeah you are looking to drive well, but you aren’t too concerned with winning the class and dominating as opposed to having a day of refining your skills and having fun. So, for the CHEAP price, I’d say give em a try. Will you be truly happy with the traction, probably not, but it’s a sub 70 dollar tire with good tread life that obviously won’t stick like glue, but should feel better than an all season.
edit: Any statements made about recent driving on summer tires is complete shit too because the road temps are still super low and almost any “summer” tire will perform like shit right now.
jay, check these out.
I currently have approx 15K miles on mine and no problems what so ever. They get pretty decent traction for the price.
I honestly couldn’t be happier with them. they were about 320 iirc shipped to my door last year and swerve mounted them for a few bucks. When these go, I’ll probably buy another set
