Anyone want work? 4g63 engine rebuild (or recommend a shop)

If things dont work out I’m in Rochester and know my way around a 2g…

Ok, thanks guys. Where we stand: .01 of play in it, factory spec is like .0009 I think he said. We wanted to take it back to toronto, they don’t believe its a bad engine. We ordered a 98 4g63t 7 bolt, apparently we got a 95 - 96 motor. Engines fine of course, but the sensors had to be changed and rerouted Dayo said. He wasn’t much help on recommending what we could do today, seemed to be even snippy with us after we reminded him we of course were on a bare bones budget.

We’re planning on redoing the whole thrust bearing and probably regular bearings (which went on the original blown motor), which adds a few hundred which we are not happy with. Going to try and recooperate some money from toronto for the Thrust Bearing problem at the very least. Not worth shipping it back with taxes, shipping, and the labor involved in redoing everything to make it complete.

thanks for the advice and I’ll keep you updated!

That motor could very well run for 60,000 miles the way it is. It’s probably had that .01 of travel it’s entire life. I see why your cautious though. Being on a tight budget will definitely do that. You could always remeasure the travel in a month or right before the warranty from JDM Toronto expires. (I believe it’s a month.) Then if the measurement jumps up to .02 all of a sudden, take it up with them.

Good luck with everything. I wonder how that other guy that was using a motor from them on here made out.

Final Update, cars on the road, after a very long ordeal. Not happy with the shop or TorontoJDM, won’t be using either again. The engine arrived a day late, not a big deal, and we went to install it, it wouldnt exactly line up. Some sensors were out of place, and a few other parts needed to be ordered to make it fit. I voted to send it back, but the parents said just try it anyway, and hey its not my car. So after 1 or 200 in parts, and a few hours in labor, the engine was ready to be installed, until he measured the crank to be at .01 of travel, way out of spec, and subject to crankwalk. He told us the engines pretty much shot.

TorontoJDM wouldn’t do anything about it because it had high compression, we were going to send it back and bite out losses, but for some reason Dayo said half the engine is torn apart, so we couldnt do that. Dayo now suggested that we can put new thrust bearings on, and it would solve it, and an expense of 5 - 6 hours of labor. As he was installing the parts, he noticed that the old bearings were pretty much destroyed! the reason we needed a new engine in the first place! We saved the old bearings (from the JDM engine)as evidence and might take it up with toronto. We would call at times to ask why it needs to be done or how long, and he would be snippy. Took another 3 days, then finally finished.

He claims the engine is not even for an eclipse, there isnt a t25 on there, yet a td04 that points upwards, luckily we had the j pipe. Dayo also took the liberty of inspecting pretty much every piece of the rest of the car and tried to push repairs on us.

Sidestory, there was a middle aged guy with a beat up 1g eclipse in there, I asked whats done, he said everything. Dayo talked him into 9,000 worth of repairs such as new fuel tank, and just about every piece of suspension and turning component. The car is not even TURBO!

Now we have the car, it runs, but a horrible stutter under 3,000rpm. Engine and install should have been 1700 for everything. We spent over 2700, maybe close to 3k for this. Understandably we are not happy.
