I just got a job with the Dept of Recreational Parks and Historic Preservation in Niagara Falls interning as an architect
From what I have heard, working for the state is a fairly sweet gig. The pay is already higher than anyone else I know interning for private organizations
Odds are I could turn this into a career, assuming this is the direction I wanted to go. Anyone have any input regarding working for the state?
There is a reason NYS and Erie County are in the mess they’re in, and a lot of it has to do with employee pay and benefits that are completely out of touch with what the private sector gets (not so much salary, but definitely benefits).
The only risk is having someone actually shake up NY politics, but I doubt that will ever happen.
I worked for the highway dept in hamburg and out of a 8 hour shift i’d say on average i did 2 hours worth of work…but I didn’t want to blacktop for the rest of my life or drive truck so 3 summers of that was enough
Im overpaid, I get a state car to use whenever I want, I get an office in Niagara Falls State Park, and the pace here is the slowest thing I have ever seen
Did tier 5 start yet or is it still tier 4 PEF? or Csea? I’ve got 10 in come november, another 15 and i’'l retire at 54ish. The pace is definately slower than the private sector, i actually took a good pay cut when i started, but the hours were too attractive. 830-430 and never a weekend
