apple humpers: gtx200 series support?

anyone know when apple plans on adding support for the nvidia 200 series GPU’s? Can’t find anything online about it

You might be able to get it to work in the mac pro using hacked drivers. And it should work no problem in windows. But i dont think apple plans on adding a high end gaming card driver into the OS any time soon.

People dont like the 8800GT since its a ‘desktop gaming card’ They want workstation cards for some reason… Mainly due to people not gaming on macs.

And the 200 series GPU’s are poor performance for how much they cost, and how much NVIDIA sucks.

Have fun. Or wipe Mac OSX and install Ubuntu. Or Windows.

Is there anything on a mac than even utilizes a quadro/firegl card? I generally use mine for high end 3D modeling/engineering (didn’t know there was a market for it on osx). Not surprising though, why pay 200.00 for a video card that will perform the same as the 1200.00 video card? This IS apple

poor performance? are you high? lol The card costs the same as the 8800GT at this stage in it’s life cycle and offers double the performance.

This is for my hackintosh btw, not a mac

thanks man… that’s lame  How can apple NOT support new hardware? I don’t get it… they had to release a patch for the 8800’s when they first came out.

especially now that CUDA is built into the new GPU’s. Imagine the raw power that could provide in video encoding or whatever. I just don’t get their business model

just going to use the vesa 3.0 driver and wait for apple to get off their asses, sucks not having 3D acceleration though

Apple currently uses the NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600, 1.5GB version. They have used a few Quadros’s over the years, but theyre insanely expensive. And the 8800GT is about $100 while the GTX 260 is $200. The 260 isnt as good as its ATI counterpart.

Snow Leopard is supposed to use GPU power for applications… Lets see how that goes.

Go on a hackintosh forum and see what they say. Im sure someone over there actually tried it.

based on what? I can agree with you based off the fact that they tend to milk products and overprice things. ATI would do the same thing if they didnt have competition for 2 years. Nvidia has plenty of good products. If there is one thing they have over ATI, its much better optimized drivers. Not perfect, but better. I would say they suck by any means.

dont forget native stereo 3D support, built in hardware physics, CUDA and GPU rendering too

They make good products, but NVIDIA as a company is a huge asshole.
