The overall barrel length has to be 16" to be legal. I have a Bushmaster M4A3 carbine and I am happy with it. Build quality seems legit. I have never had a problem with it after thousands of rounds down range.
Personally I’d say screw the ar15. I personally don’t care for them. They’re for pretty boys. .223 is a cool round and all, but it’s not that exciting to shoot.
Personally I’d look at an ar10. .308 is a way beefier round, and in my opinion more fun to shoot. You can pick up a dpms lr-308 for right around $1000
Dude I know has his ffl and tracks my shit down. Take a look at dicks though. My buddy picked up a 700 in .223 there for something stupid like $460.
Edit: from what I’ve been told, the savage is more accurate out of the box (.5 moa) but you can do a lot with the 700. Just putting a different stock and free floating the barrel can ge you <.5 moa. Also optics are obviously a big deal. Check this out. I’ve read some awesome reviews on it. It obviouy isn’t a leupold, but for the money it’s killer
go Savage. been to a few competitive shoots, and the old men always say nothing shoots better out of the box than a Savage, even a cheap one. might not be as glamorous as the big money Rem’s and Win’s, but they work solid for what they are.
I have a friend over at Lackland and is a CATM instructor(Combat Arms Training) and he builds these off the side. Shoot me your number or email and ill forward it to him. I was about to buy his but his wife was none too happy bout it… So im waiting for him to build me one.
Probably one of the most knowledgeable guys around doing it… Well in San Antonio that is
I am an owner of a firearms business, If you have an idea of what you want shoot me a PM and I can get you some prices.
You really can not go wrong with any of the big names such as DPMS, Rock river(seems to be the hot ticket recently), spikes, S&W, YHM, Bushmaster, and many more.
If you are looking for a little less expensive and still a very nice gun you can also see STAG.
Personally I own a DPMS, and I think a spikes is next on my list.
We should be able to beat or match any internet pricing you find.
