Are Motorsports "Real" Sports?

Word, and I respectfully disagree with you as well.

Haha this was all I was really looking for lol

I was making the point generally, not in rebuttal to you.

The thing you don’t factor into your argument is that in motorsports, the vehicle is classed, and there are regulations. They do this so that it is not a measurement of who can build the fastest car.

Did you watch Truth in 24?

Did you see Audi beat the Peugot? The peugot car was CLEARLY A LOT FASTER. Yet, Audi was able to win because of their skill, strategy, and management. The ENTIRE team played a part in winning. It was not just a battle of which car was built better.

Aren’t you the one looking to get into racing spec miata? Again, the thing here is that it is all the same car, with restrictions on modifictions and car setup. The rules are designed so that skill and strategy win.

OH sry, being penned up at work on a beautiful friday afternoon has gotten to me. That’s it, I’m leaving. :grouphug:

Absolutely it’s a sport.

And for those of you saying that horse racing is mostly/all the horse, I’d like to know how many of you have actually ridden a horse, let alone competed in any sort of equestrian competition. I’m guessing there are no jockeys here, but I’ve been competing in Equestrian SPORTS since I was 6 years old. The athleticism required to control an animal at least 10 times your size, let alone get it to do exactly what you want will blow your mind. And jockeys don’t just sit up there, they strategize, they put their bodies through hell to meet weight requirements, and if they don’t get win, place, or show they often don’t get paid.

/soapbox

"an active diversion requiring physical exertion and competition "

I don’t see how anyone could answer “no”.

It is a fact that motorsports are sports according to the deifinition.
IMHO it is more of a sport than baseball. Fat guys spitting and standing on grass does not make a sport.

This is even proving my point further… Phenomenal that they could do that? YES! Interesting as an automotive enthusiest? YES!

But given car for car, that better driver with the better crew would have dominated! Which in essence makes it a competition as opposed to a sport, because another common trend of sports, is all things equal.

Ahah! The thing that attracted me to spec racing, “A drivers race,” and I think you’re getting closer to the sport aspect of it the more you could potentially regulate things.

But even in such an event where everything is regulated as shit, you still have 3 different classes of motors you could chose from, all with different throttle body restrictions, and 3 different differentials you can use, and different ballast weights and so on.

moboost4u, you are a retard

I can be pretty thick headed sometimes, but you EASILY take the cake.

Well what about an athelete with access to better training facilities?

This:

Sounded more girley than this:

:mamoru:

if you do not think motorsports are “sports” and drivers arent "athletes, you are insane.

Professional(on all levels) drivers’ bodies are stressed immensely by the ever-changing variables and Gs they experience in racing. Go drive a 6 hour Kart enduro and run a REAL kart for 30 min. or more and you will be more exhausted and physically demanded of than anything you have ever done in your life.

To say driving is not a true “sport” is like saying that a radiologist isnt a doctor because he has the advantage of ridic. amounts of tech. and money. but in essense he uses this tech. and money to be the BEST doctor.

REAL drivers train and exercise not only their minds but ALSO their bodies and reflexes and their senses and everything that goes along with piloting a fast moving projectile.

What about the fact that some basketball players are 7 feet tall and some are 6.5 feet tall?

What about the fact that some wear nike and some wear reebok sneakers?

There will always be factors that give one competitor an edge over the other.

edit: you know what, no, I am done. I am not going to argue over shit like this anymore. I need to stop wasting my time arguing.

Haha, thank you for taking it to an angry place…

Care to explain? After all, this is an opinion thread, it has no right answer. Its what you fucking classify something as. And how is my logic at all unreasonable?

Dude… now im going in circles… did you read the entire thread or are you just trying to win the argument.

yay, I’m girly!

No, I will not elaborate, see my edit

Haha… read the first sentience of my first post. You helped accomplish my mission

Here is an informative post for you to consider:

If you are going to make a determination of what constitutes as a sport, you should first be able to understand the PROPER definition of a sport.

That is why I made post #47.
