Artvoice: The Waterfront

Good job actually taking action and trying to get it noticed. Its all too easy to think up ideas and do nothing about it.

Joined. Thanks for the link, and good job on setting this up.

Action jackson

joined cause I like wegmans and it’s better than what is down there now.

They should seriously use models that work such as this where I live. Shit even monkeys can copy ideas which work.

Below, the large building on the left #3 is an HEB supermarket. It works pretty damn well. My wife and I will walk through the shops then at the end pick up our groceries.

Hipsters on fixed gear bicycles bump. Call Larry Quinn!

Since it was bumped any useful new info on this?

Naw. Check back once every 3 years, not once every 3 months.

Although I did have the best idea yet while on my boat with a couple buddies and a lot of beer:

Strip club on the water. Maybe a big boat for boob cruises. Nightly cruises for a fee, rent the whole thing for bachelor parties, etc. Or a floating barge you can dock your boat at for some marine stripping action. Tops off in American waters, fully nude once you cross into Canadian waters.

But that’s going to be a seasonal thing so you obviously need it to operate out of some kind of year round home base. If only there was a structure already on the water that you could dock the marine division at. Something that didn’t have windows. Maybe an abandoned structure that the government would cut you all sorts of tax breaks to rehab.

That’s right. Turn a grain elevator into a strip club accessible by land or by sea with a summertime boob cruise.

:thankyou:

don’t hold your breathe… my step-grandfather tried to buy that exact grain elevator when it was listed vacant and available and the city would not sell. a month later it was sold to a polotician for LESS than he was offering a month earlier. He wanted to turn it into a mixed use building with offices, student housing, and luxury lofts.

A friend just sent this to me…I know nothing more than what the link provides, but am planning on taking a long lunch to listen to whatever it is they have to say.

THE UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO AND THE SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT ALUMNI ASSOCIATIONS

Invite you to UB Downtown . . .

An Insight into Buffalo’s Waterfront Revitalization

From Thomas P. Dee, '96, '75, president,
the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation

Thursday, Sept. 30th, Noon-1:15 p.m., Chef’s, 291 Seneca Street

What might the future hold for Buffalo’s waterfront? Bass Pro represented just one-tenth of the 1.1-million square feet of retail, restaurant and entertainment space for the Canal Side project. How critical is securing an anchor tenant? Judging from public reaction in the media, many people have opinions of what should occur next.

UB alumnus Tom Dee, who received his Executive MBA and bachelor’s degrees in management from UB, is responsible for managing the ECHDC’s day-to-day operations for not only Canal Side but for the region’s overall waterfront development effort.

COST $14 for dues-paying members* of the UB Alumni Association (who may register one guest at that discounted rate) and $16 for non-members and includes Chef’s famous lunch buffet.

RESERVATIONS May be made online or by phoning the UB Office of Alumni Relations at 716.645.3317. Parking is free and the deadline is Sept. 27th.

Hmm. I might be down for that as well…

+1

I’ll pick your fat ass up!

That is Buffalo for you.

Paulo’s fat ass???

It’s a lot easier to draw people to your waterfront when you don’t have to compete against a -40 wind chill coming off Lake Erie for parts of the year. A waterfront supermarket in Houston is not the same as a waterfront supermarket in Buffalo.
