it doens’t have an HD tuner… i’m not sure, but can i just get the HD comcast box and run a DVI into the TV and use the comcast box as the tuner? or do you need a built in tuner in the TV to simply accept the signal?
thanks. (ps i know it’s out of stock , but you can back order… seems like a nice price and the *best tv so far, in regards to price and specs)
did you look at tv’s at costco? They have some really good deals, and they have the best warranty hands down. We bought a plasma there and asked if we could by an extended warranty, the lady said it already has a lifetime warranty. anytime anything goes wrong with it we can just bring it back, no matter how long.
as dgramc said, I’m pretty sure as long as the TV is “hd ready” it doesn’t need a built in tuner to display hd info. The built in tuner is more of a conveinence so you don’t have another piece of equipment to hook up. Also, make sure you have enough high def inputs, like 2 hdmi or dvi, so that you can get the best signal from both the HD cable box, and your dvd player.
Hey Sonny, talk to my buddy Mike at Digital Visions (724) 934-3130. They sell all these high end TV’s, he really knows his stuff. He will give you the low down on what you want, and what you need.
we have a 55" Sony LCD at the house with the Comcast HD BOX. we had it hooked up DVI, now its HDMI and there is a small difference. Regardless HD is just awesome. But definitely go with the latest and greatest with HDMI.
like i said give him a call, he hooked bob up with an awesome deal… there might be one out there for you!
What is the difference between DVI and HDMI? I have a 52" RCA HDTV and I’m just curious if I’d see a difference? Right now I’m just running the 5 component cables that come with the Comcast HD box. I know mine had DVI ports on the back, would I be better to just go to that for even better quality?
DVI is video only and HDMI is audio and video. The quality will be better with the DVI / HDMI, but I’d bet you could not tell the difference between those two and component cables. There is no difference in video quality between DVI and HDMI as they are both digital. The built in HD tuners are for over the air reception (antenna) and is not a concern with cable. Pittsburgh stations do broadcast over the air HD. With cable, you’ll need a HD box from your cable provider.
it looks pretty decent…
& the price is not too bad.
the only thing i would worry about by buying through mail order without see it in person is that you can hear the sound quality. some tv’s sound a lot better then others. so if you know a place that stocks it, go check it out & then order it through crutchfield.
as far as HD tuners & HDMI
Rammer summed it up pretty good.
if you using cable or Dish you don’t need a tuner you will use what they give you.
but if you want to get free over the air broadcasts you’ll need either a TV with built in tuner or a HD-ready TV with external tuner (thats what i have)
& as far as HDMI & DVI…its the same but one has imbeaded audio.
you can use a DVI to HDMI converter or vis-versa & not loose any quality you just have to remember to run audio.
