Audi guys...

the 2000 A6 posted FS in classifieds…

76K

What problems could come up and how much would they cost, my sister needs a 1st car and this looks like a decent one…will it go 130K w/o needing any major work other than oil change, etc… type or are timing chains, etc… coming up?

If the chains and control arms are not done yet, they are coming up within the next 10-25k.

Chain kit (includes water pump)- $250
labor- $400

Control arms (full kit) -$500
Labor - ~$400

Those are the biggies around 80-100k.

It’s a 2000 so he should be fine with the control arm issue. And I’m pretty certain it is not a chain. I dont think I have ever seen a Audi with chains…
So just make sure the timing belt has been done.

chain, belt same damn difference.

I’m sure it’s been covered but

  1. It’s a belt

and

  1. It sure as shit won’t cost $400 in labor anywhere that you’d actually want to have the job done.

The 30v 2.8 is one of the best motors audi has made in a while, it’s a tank, and should have no problem going to 200k w/ proper oil changes and timing belt refreshes. However, they can leak a bit.

I know you are captain audi, but I had my timing BELT kit installed for $425.

Captain? I don’t even own one.

jager is right, belt and control arms are the majors. other than that the 2.8 is stout and should work out great for your lil sis

the 30v do have a nasty tendency to leak from their cam seals after ~100k. the parts are not cheap, and the task is very labor intensive.

:werd:

Captain Audi, Tell the dickhead how it is LOL

X…

P.S. Yeah, like Jaeger said, and I’ve gone through it too. (did it all myself though)

Uhm, I think I know, I’ve prob. done more TBs on 2.8s than everyone in this thread combined.
