I have been hooked on the Audi commercial where the living room changes over time and at the end the Audi replaces the Benz. The music is sweet.
I researched and found that the music was written for the commercial and therefore isn’t a real song and is only 1:02 long.
So, I downloaded the mp3 from Audi’s truthinengineering.com website, and messed with it to get a real song out of it. Stretched phrases and input new instrumentation to help with the build and release and give it an ending.
It’s rough, as I need to tweak some things and adjust volumes and then gate/compress and mixdown.
But you get the idea here:

Yes, I know it isn’t the best quality. I had some digital delay problems on my drums and I need to crossfade out some of the volume drop-outs. But it is much better through a real stereo and especially through old-schoool big headphones, since I split a lot of the stereo field up. And the upload lost some quality from the one on my CPU. I need to now step away from it for a few days and then come back to it fresh.
pretty interesting Lee. What program do you use for audio editing? I personally use Cubase / Protools
I use Cakewalk Sonar Pro Producer Edition for analog audio recording and midi sequencing. I link it to Propellerhead Reason for most of my samples and drum racks. If the song is 100% midi, I do it all from Reason and then import it to Cakewalk for vocals and analog instruments. I do post mix-down tweaks in Sony Sound Forge.
I trigger with a master synth and Roland pads.
And I have a rack of samplers with unlimited wav samples. I just don’t have that hooked up anymore as I’ve not done music stuff for a long time, so some of the samples on this track aren’t the most “real”-sounding.
I have to even out some of the drops in audio with crossfades and pull out a few instruments here and there that have important transition our counterpoint parts that got lost in the mix. I’ll work on finishing it this weekend.
Thanks. To me, it sounded sick as in “awful”.
But here is the final mixdown version. Changed a few things around.

EDIT: A New remix was done tonight, Oct. 28th. The above link is now the latest mixdown where I EQ’d some things and added another brass instrumentation. If you listened to it prior to 11pm Tuesday, it is now different.
Sonny and Dom, here is a blast from your past… sort of.

Did a quick video with some old footage and newer pics and the Progress music.
