I am looking to get my cf hood colormatched along with side skirts and a front bumper. I already went to harts collision in east greenbush for a quote. Has anyone here been there for work before? Or if someone knows another body shop that does great colormatching please chime in.
Albany Bodyworks I believe is called color matches and has the machine for it.
They are right next to Everett road but you have to get there by going on side streets behind the Dunking Donuts and Off Track Betting on central.
I believe Schenctady auto body does as well.
What color is the car?
I can look up the code and see how many variances there are for the color. More than a few people her can vouch for our paint work. Sofar out of about 50 colors we shot in the last 7 months, one was a shade off. Just did Ollies pearl white infinity and the color is spot on. even being an older car, and pearl white is about the worst color to match.
It depends on what you want to pay. A given color’s base coat can cost $40 a pt or $180 a pt. Example Ollies was a tri coat (base white and pearl mid, then clear) and EACH base and mid coat was $170 a piece!
Price you want to pay depends on how it will be done. A: Cheap, “panel” painted (not blended) with cheaper base and good clear. This is 90% of how we do it, and like I said only 1 was a shade off out of 50+ sofar. B: Panel painted but with higher end base, more expensive becasue of materials cost. C: Blended, low end base & good clear. Better than choice B. D: Blended with high end clear and high end base. This is how proper paint work is done, for example insurance collision repairs.
Here is a Evo X CF trunk we just did this week, we did it a little different, and faded the lip into bare CF. Middle of the road base, good clear & just shooting the trunk, no blending:
New WRX fender and bumper panel painted. Norwood can chime in, perfect match:
Mazda 3 rear ended, replaced parts and blended:
WRX rust repair rebumper respray, mid grade base and blended:
Might need to hit you up actually for my bike paint (blue sv) ^
That evo trunk looks fucking sick man. The paint color is KYO or brilliant silver. If you look at my albums thats the color on my g. But if the price is right I’ll bring my business to CRC
If you wanted a new blue, as in no matching… the WRX WR-Blue is a very nice color and a QT is like $60! Very inexpensive and has a good amount of pop to the color.
Thanks buddy!
I wish the camera picked up the CF weave more, and the fade too. It looks off in the pic, becasue it was overcast and it didnt have much light I guess. doesnt help I am not a photographer either.
If you want the color dead nuts, its blend the fenders time. Proper matching isnt all in the base color. The clear changes the color alot actually. Silvers especially can be picky. Its worth the extra bit of labor (materials doesnt go up I would have to get a QT of base anyways becasue its a black hood, and assuming new black primed bumper), also starting with a darker color it takes more to base to cover, so its even more necessary to blend. If it were black over silver, it would be easier to cover. Light over dark sucks.
BUT, I panel painted an Integra and shaved the “integra” off the bumper. Painted the bumper and skirts 2 different times (bumper first) skirts later with same color & clear) and the colors dead on with the existing paint, so it all depends:
lastly, what about shooting the under side of the hood?
And is the bumper new? If so is it primed or raw plastic?
No need for underside of hood. But the bumper doesn’t come with primer I believe but it’s fiberglass. I know silver can be a bitch from what I have heard. Why don’t you pm me a general quote give or take
PM coming. Fiberglass? Is it an aftermarket “body kit” type? Any link to the part?
Yea it’s aftermarket body kit type I can’t get the link since I’m on my phone but the website is strafe automotive and the front bumper is a G35 coupe inven front.
ok cool ill look it up.
so stoked! CRC:number1
Ollie you need to get CFD or KBB to shoot your car!
Myself and CFD had some 3-way photo action with his Q last fall, just a quick shoot though. Ive wanted to shoot his M3 for a while, even more so when it gets fresh paint.
the M3’s on the backburner and wont be presentable till like mid summer. I sold the meisters I had for it and it wont see paint for idk how long. Idc, I’d rather drive it all shoddy than have it sit around looking pretty hehe
The q on the other hand will be needing another photoshoot real soon:D
Good lol, hit myself or Dan up and we’ll be happy to shoot lol. I’d even shoot the M3 in its current state haha, its got character lol.
I went to Pats Paint on State St in Schenectady. They painted my muffler and its still holding up quite well after a couple of weeks in the salt.
