Autoglass/rear defroster help

The two leads on my rear defroster have fallen off. I tried soldering them, but just can’t get it nearly hot enough. One autoglass place told me they glue them on for $50, well fuck that, I’m going to try myself before I pay $50.

Anyone else have this problem before? Know of any electical conducting epoxys?

I used solder when mine fell off. It was tricky cause I had to put solder on both parts first then heated the shit out of the tab and stuck it on.

Or there is this:

Maybe a local parts store has something similar available.

ya i have this same issue with my 91 Jimmy tried soldering nothing, i guess it would be way easier if i took the glass off and tried it on a bench. i am intrigued by this glue idea though, what kinda glue would you use that conducts electricity?

ironically it’s my 92 Jimmy that this happened to. might give that stuff above a try.

i think we use a special type of glue at the dealership i’ve only done this a few times on impalas so i don’t recall much. i’ll see if we have any of that stuff laying around.

damn for $25 i can get a newerrear glass with connectors intact!

if u have glass coverage…call your insurance.

You can buy a defroster repair kit at any autoparts store. There are 2 types, one to repair the grid and one to re-connect the tabs. It uses a 2 part conductive epoxy. I’ve used these kits many times w/ success. Like anything the key to a good repair is in the prep. Clean the surface w/ 00 steel wool and alcohol, follow the instructions in the package.
