I know someone or some of you guys work at Rainbow, which is where I intended to go. But my girlfriends escort has hideous tints on it, and shes been looking for it to be removed.
Rough estimate, what would the cost be to remove it. Its a 98 ford escort zx2 coupe. The rear window and the rear side windows are the only windows tinted. The driver and passenger windows are not tinted.
Anyone know how hard it is to remove tint yourself? I mean I wouldnt want to fuck with the rear. Being unexperienced i dont want to mess up the heat elements on the rear. But if its simple, but takes a little time, I may do the side rears myself and pay 20 bucks to have the rear done.
Its fairly easy to do on all the windows except the rear window with defrosters…there is no guarantee they will work again after you remove and scrape the tint.
The easiest thing to do is spray windex with amonia on them…get a razor blade…try to peel it back and rip as much as you can off…then scrape the glue with a blade.
even if i took it to rainbow, the defrosters still might not work? I mean you scrap the rear with a razor blade thats obviously gunna mess them up. But dont they have a better way that saves the defrosters?
I dont know if they do or not…because i think they always warn you regardless when stripping tint on the rear that it may not work. BDR5oh would know more…he works there and knows his tints.
Do it your self for the sides. Once you get the tints off get some goo gone and put it on a rag and rub the residue off your self, it worked wonders on my mx6.But if you dont wanna deal with it then yea just go get it done its prob alot easier but itl cost ya.
p.s. if u use a razor blade on the rear window, u will def. F*ck the defrosters up… instead use a steel wool and glass cleaner, and a lot of elbow grease, and u will get it off…
Sides … peel tint off … clean the glue with FRESH blades and soapy water
rear … peel tint … grab a 12 pack … soak the rear down with glass cleaner … and start rubbing it off with #000 steel wool … have fun
I have always used Gas or Lighterfluid to get the sticky stuff off after I peel the tint off. It works awesome, but you really have to clean the are good afterword with lots of soap and water. If you peel it right you should be able to get it all of in one piece.
There is a kit in a spray bottle that Autozone carries for about $7 bucks. Real simple, spray the stuff on, let it sit, then peel off (comes with a razor blade/tool). Should be enough to do 3 or 4 cars. Takes an hour or two at most. Then clean the windows with windex or soap/water to remove any leftover residue.
