Back to School for me

Why get experience first when I can get my experience making $20k more a year?
(That and mine is free for all but 6 MBA classes)

good luck with that

the real world might be giving Joe a slap in the face LOL

Keep your eyes open for application material from “James Fry.” Make sure he gets put in the “accepted” pile. He’s a straight shooter with upper management written all over him.

I’ll see what I can do

nah, I already have a few offers, everywhere i’ve gotten in the door for the interview without full-time experience has made me one…not like im starting out as a VP but not entry-level college grad 45k a year shit either. i’d imagine busting my ass to keep up a 3.94 cume for undergrad and 3.8 grad has something to do with it.

can’t wait to pull an “in good company” and have subordinates twice my age

dude… seriously, chill.

'Grats Jay. Thinking about school again myself. Where can one take the GMAT at?

Whoa, where did this come from? Talk about a bump.

Yeah so far school has been going pretty well. I am so damn busy at work this semester that it has been difficult for me to keep up with reading. Plus I will be out of town for 2 non consecutive weeks so I am a little worried.

The workload is managable because in the PMBA program they know you are working full time so they try to keep the work at a decent level so you can still have some family time.

My work pays for some of my education. It will basically amount to about half of the total tutition. I also took out one loan for 1G a year and the rest is coming out of my pocket. I calculated it at one point and I think the total cost was something like $29,000 for the whole program.

I am hating life right now between all the time work takes up and the added responsibility of school, but I think it will be worth it.

Sorry for the misinformation on the E and P MBA programs. I read that somewhere.

LOL! Thanks James. BTW happy bday.

congrats…

What type of career are you looking to get into and in what parts of the country?

Experience will almost always trump school. Once you start working grades don’t mean anything.

And if you think you get $20k more with an MBA than someone with a BS and experience, you are mistaken.

Thanks. Oh, and go to mba.com to get a shit ton of info on the GMAT and register. The damn test’s $250.

Thanks for the insider’s view Jay. I searched for GMAT to see what kind of inside info I might find and came across your thread. Going by the thread date I could see that you just finished your first semester so I figured I’d ask to see what I’m in for.

ibanking associate…you need 3 years of experience in financial services or an MBA. My MBA is only taking me one extra year and I don’t have to wake up early in the morning.
NYC, toronto, chicago, charlotte are the main money centers.

but i sort of sidetracked this thread a bit and i didnt mean to jack it. back on topic.

No problem. What was your undergrad concentration?

I found that my class (70 people or so) is about half engineers. I thought that was kind of strange but I guess that’s pretty normal.

I studied mechanical engineering.

Yeah, that’s surprising that a full half are engineers. Then again a 4 year engineering degree, followed by spending some time getting some use out of it doing pure technical work, then studying business part time while transitioning to management is a pretty standard career path.
