Back to the roots...91MR2's new '91 MR2...

Hey guys,

Since I need to free up some monies, the Volvo sadly has to go. In it’s place, I needed something. I went back to the MR2 again. This is my 3rd, and it’s a very nice example of a bone stock 1991 Toyota MR2. Ok fine, it has Koni adjustables all the way around and an ST sway bar up front, but I’ll take it!

It’s currently in the process of getting a ton of much needed TLC. It’s all there, and it runs and drives great, but that’s not good enough for me. I started out my pulling the entire interior, and vaccuuming and shampoo’ing all the carpets and seats. Then I pulled all the plastics, and soaked them in soapy water, and cleaned them all up. I have started putting the interior back together, it will be be done sometime this w/e.

Next week will be a little more involved. Going to pull the engine and tranny as one unit, and replace all the seals and gaskets in the entire engine. While it’s out I’m replacing the clutch, PP and T/O bearing too. I’ll then powerwash the entire engine and engine bay.

Following all this will be a full rub/buff of the paint, and then detailing all the wheel wells by powerwashing them fully, and flat blacking the calipers and hubs. Once that all dries, I have 4 brand new rotors and 4 sets of new pads to go on. While all that’s being done, I’ll thoroughly clean the wheels, and then repaint them in their OEM Aluminum color.

So yea, a lot to do, but I’m excited. I love these cars so much! Here’s a few pictures as I recieved the car in my driveway. Scary!

But rest assured, it will be PERFECT when I’m done with it! I’ll update with photos of the progress.

Joe

Miles?

Pics dont work at work, so i’ll check it out when i get home…not as good in the snow as the volvo but damn sure gonna be more fun! I too, as you know, am hopefully stepping into a RWD daily/beater in the near future…

Hit 157K on the way home. Very young for these cars…

i refuse to believe it’s yours. wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to dirty for you. hehe.

Nice pickup  Sounds like some serious dedication to the reconditioning that you’re doing, can’t wait to see the after pics.

Where the shit did my post go? Weird…

Anywho, I can’t wait to see the after pics. Joe takes care of his shit.

glad u got it Joe. let me know if you need a hand with anything im more than willing to help ya out

Yeah, thanks guys, the after pictures will be taken this w/e. Weather pending, I hope to have all the cosmetics, both interior and exterior done, save for painting the wheels…

We’ll see…

Sweet pickup. Im sure it will spanking when you give it the loving.

what kinds of prices do you find these cars for?

Always liked these cars. Nice pickup

I got a good deal on this, but I’ll end up putting about 2 grand in it when all’s said and done…

awesome

I clicked on this and thought it was an old thread when you got the other red one. Congrats, Joe but what the hells going on with the black one? You and Luke should cruise on by my neghbors house in your cars, he has a red mr2 as well but with that intake snorkel thing.

Awesomeness, she’ll be sharp.

nice, these cars always seem to hold their value

why do you need so much oil?

and it looks like its in great shape for a 91…

 I would have to say at this point these cars are not a passion of yours, but rather and obsession. I would also say that it is a pretty good obsession. Looking forwards to seeing how great it looks in a couple of weeks.

^ lol im on my 3rd cb7 accord… all of them were 92’s also

i guess im obsessed

Thanks for the comments guys, it’s coming along really well…more photos soon…likely by the w/e when it’s all buffed out…

Jam, Skrapper had a promo. going on, it was like $2 a quart, so I got enough for a couple oil changes. I change oil rather excessively, like every 2K miles…

Mike, I suppose in some ways, they are a major obsession. But I really do take a lot of pride in bringing these cars back (if they need it), they’re pretty rare these days, and they are just such amazing cars. Never have I experienced any car that perfoms this well, looks this good, and is so reliable, all for so little money. Plus they are incredibly practical and comfortable for an MR car…
