Back to the roots...91MR2's new '91 MR2...

agreed

In for update pics…
I wish I had the motivation/desire to maintain my cars 1/3rd as well.

It’s def. a lot of effort. I had the entire interior out, minus the dash itself, just to clean/inspect everything. Happily, everything was in perfect order, just needed a good wipe-down…and that it got for sure…looks like brand new again…

Oh, and HUGE thanks to Luke L for stopping by yesterday to help with the stereo install, and also Spanky for bringing over the buffer and helping witht that too!

No problem buddy. Just a few things to button up. After looking into it that Speedo is cake to fix. We will get it straightened out.

It is amazing to see how far this car has already come since the first pictures. The interior is definitely Joe worthy now.

i dunno…I had to climb in the Black MR2 a special way so i didnt mess the seat up lol

Sweet Luke, thanks man. I’ll be sure to start tearing it all apart and have it ready again for when you get there. All the parts from NT Toyota shoud be here this week, so I’ll wait until Friday to put them all in (New A/C button, ashtray retainer cup, shift boot, etc.). 10 AM again Friday sound good? Let me know. Lunch on me afterwards…

Chris, you know the drill dude. I love that seat, haha.

why can’t I find the turbo in these pics? :stuck_out_tongue:

10 works for me. We will definitely need to pull the cluster out at least once to double check the adjustment. See you then.

If the weather is nicer I may drive mine out…we shall see.

Awesome Luke, can’t wait, I’ll be there bright and early, get it all ready to go. Any clue with the bulbs and air bag light? Me thinks that either something wasn’t plugged back in, or the battery terminal just needs to be pulled off to reset…

Aaron, no turbo MR2 for me. Already have 2 turbo-charged cars, not looking to add a near 20-year old turbo car to the fleet, haha.

i know Joe…i love ya and the MR2

Well, the problem was a result of not disconnecting the Battery. The Air Bag tripped as soon as we disconnected the Cluster with the Battery still connected…same thing with the bulb blowing is my guess. It never dawned on me to mention it before we started because I never planned on touching any of that. Running speaker wire did not justify killing power. Plus Brian was Balls deep in buffing when we where tackling that. It is tough remembering everything when there are 3 guys on one girl, er car.

The Air Bag light can be fixed by “playing the drums” which is common on MKIIs. It is straight forward but you need to take your time. I have not personally done it but I got the BGB to show how to troubleshoot it. Pulling the battery will not reset this light. Unfortuneately the light indicates a “disconnect error” which needs to be reset manually.

As far as the light…I have a box full of 194 bulbs. I will bring you a replacement.

We should be able to fix everything.

Finally got a chance to post from home so i can check out the pics…and there’s one thing that car is missing. I couldn’t think of it at first…and after sleeping on it, realize what it needs…

A tape player with a removable faceplate. Ballin’

Haha, you still have that?

Yikes, just tallied up my parts cost so far for the car…

Just over $700 so far!

  • Full clutch kit
  • Lower engine seal/gasket kit (Replacing all the seals and gaskets in the block)
  • 4 brand new rotors
  • 4 sets of brand new brake pads
  • New Toyota OEM ashtray and it’s retainer (They were cracked, I’m anal)
  • New Toyota OEM shift boot (Stock was torn)
  • New toyota OEM A/C button (Paint was faded)
  • Case of Quaker State, 10W-30
  • Multiple bottles of gear oil
  • Multiple bottles of rubbing compound, polishing compound, and wax
  • Multiple bottles of engine degreaser and Simple Green (For cleaning the whole engine bay while the engine is out)
  • 50-50 Coolant (Flushing the whole system)
  • Brake fluid (Flushing and re-bleeding all 4 corners)

Man this shit adds up!

Updated photos by the end of the w/e!

Yeah, $5K and counting for me…every dollar well spent.

If it makes you feel any better I spent nearly 400 dollars in fluids alone for my car. heh.

I has taken me over 2 years to spend $400 on my car

It doesn’t bec. I’m already over-budget on this car, and I’ve only just begun. The whole point of selling the Volvo and getting this was to free up monies, not spend more. And until the Volvo sells, I’m just spending more monies…

Thats the life of cars…always over budget and never done…

Did I see this car pull on to East Park Dr. @ ~6 yesterday?
