Banned Books

don’t you know how things are in the this country anymore. If one person is offended they change things. i’m sure the ACLU is behind this one in someway. These little things add up and they matter. all i can do is shake my head :dunno:

dh lawrence is allways challenged, even in his own day. salem rushdie, author of satanic verses, has a hit on him from osama bin laden and those kooks. His books are good, read midnights children too. it is a modern day romantic style writing.

thankfully i have pretty much all of those books, so if it were lost, no biggie to me

its because today’s parental society is a bunch of fucking pussies that think if we shield our kids from the realities of the real world we’re doing them some kind of service. Which, of course, couldn’t be further from the truth.

people suck

This has been attempted to happen for years, mostly in smaller towns…it’s not really going to occur, Harper Lee wrote To Kill Mockingbird, it’s was a controversial book then…and actually is still now due to the racial issues…none of this is going to come to fruition…

I agree, banning these books is rediculous.

Yup, they want us in the dark. Knowing is half the battle.

hiding your kid from the real world will result in 1 of 2 things.

They become spoiled worthless faggots, or they go berserk when the line is finally cut and turn into the antithesis of what their parents wanted them to grow up into.

blame the loser generation also known as our parents the baby boomers. half want to be their kids buddy… the other half want to be their kids dictator. nice way to follow up ‘the greatest generation’

whatever happened to spanking your kid, knowing right from wrong, and keeping your nose outta other ppls business until it became your business? :dunno:

no values? people seperating from the church? I am not going to go all religious on you, because I am no saint either. But growing up going to catholic schools taught me alot about right and wrong. Hell I even got hit at school, i knew if i was doing something bad… my ass was grass

exactly

in addition, the loss of parental roles in todays generation. mom aint mom, dad aint dad and no one lays down the law from a young age. i mean we have TV shows where parents are so greatful some host came in and yelled at their kids… fuckin losers

I too think some of those books are dumbly banned. I dont know if A Seprate Peice was on that list… but I know the year after it was taught to me the school banned it because Finny and the other main character were ‘gay’ HOWEVER, anyone who read the book could see there is nothing but a friendship between these highschool aged boys!!!

All the books are banned for the dumbest reasons… I dont think the people who banned them actually read them.

I totally agree with this statement and all that followed, and would also like to add one thing to the mix… frivolous (sp?) lawsuits. You should not be able to divorce or become emancipated from your parents unless there is some real cause like abuse or neglect. If I ever have a kid, he or she will know right or wrong and to give everyone a certain amount of respect because you never know what you can learn from someone else. That was what always kept me on the straight and narrow, the fear of disappointing my folks and losing their trust.

Well, this got a little off-topic so so summarize:

books good.
frivolous lawsuits bad.

I agree for the most part. I don’t agree about religon/church though.

I was taught right from wrong and I am now teaching that to my kids(without church or god). I have been told by a few people that I am too hard on my kids, but yet I always get compliments on how well behaved and polite my kids are. If they don’t say “thank you” when someone gives them something, they get smacked. I haven’t had to smack them in a while and they are only 4 and 3 years old. I also have had old lady’s yell at me for spanking my kids in Target before. If they screw up, they get spanked plain and simple. Parents, for the most part, are such pussies anymore.

And if that wasn’t off topic enough, try this one. I was at the county airport for the air show last weekend and they had a paper airplane contest. My kids were in the K-4 grade level and they were supposed to help make the plane. I basically let my kids do whatever the hell they wanted to do with the plane and they had fun making the planes and trying them out. Some other fuckhead parents were there building elaborate planes for their kids and getting mad when they didn’t go as far as the parent thought they should. I saw a dad make his kid cry because his plane got ruined by another kid stepping on it, his dad flipped out because it was a “great paper airplane” as he put it. Let the kids be kids and quit making everything so damn competitive.

holy crap that’s insane. I had to read a LOT of those books in HS…HAD to.

What are they making the kids read in HS now? “Go Dog, Go” ???

Come on…

i’d high five you if i saw you spank a rowdy kid in public :bigthumb:

i mean really, kids listen to their parents (more than others) from what 3-10… after that, their friends, TV, school, internet, friends families, etc… are butting in. so you only have a few years to build the base of decent human being? :dunno: with no kids it’s easier to talk like that, but that’s how i see it.

parents shouldn’t have to rely on religion to teach their kids morals.
