best beginners turbo for d16 engine

mafdark seems to have some serious $$ invested into his d-series, i would def talk to him.

and also 95d16turbo is a good resource as well, hence the name

omg fry in a tech section wat is this!!
but everything he said would help everyone else towards helping you figure your stuff out

Damn f bod guys LOL :banghead:

greddy kit is by far the best starter turbo kit for d series

why ya say that, i think edelbrock is a great kit minus the price

The edelbrock is a good kit, but with the current price of ss tig welded manifolds it is quite a bit over priced.

the setup I am selling is nearly identical (minus the tuning software, injectors, and manifold) but with the GT28RS instead of the GT28R and all stainless steel parts rather than cast iron.

now that I’ve pitched my stuff, I would agree with the person above who said 5-6 psi is too low. You wont notice any gains at that level really, I would suggest putting it up to somewhere from 8-10 PSI. Nice power but without risking your rods.

psi is irrelevant, its power, tune a non vtec to around 180whp and a vtec to 200-210 and you will be fine

i agree that a ss manifold etc is nice, but not really worth it on a first turbo/budget build D series

OP FYI you can get a used greddy kit for 800 or less and is great for daily driving

I disagree on the ss manifold… I have found its more expensive to progressively upgrade than to just buy it the first time. But I understand not everyone can buy the best stuff right off the bat.

Greddy kits are pretty crappy. I would rather build an ebay kit than have one

have you ever owned a greddy kit? mine put out 220whp on a z6, was very easy to install and was put through hell and back and never broke on me

for sub 1000, the powerband/quality of the greddy kit are great

yes there are better kits out there, but comparing a greddy kit to an ebay kit is just foolish

listen to earl

There are not any guarantees against blowing up your car, so wipe that thought out of your mind.

Also, wipe out the thought that you can do this for a couple hundred bucks.

Most turbo cars’ stock wastegates open up at around 7 psi, so if I were you I would start with a turbo that comes stock on a 4 cylinder car with similar displacement to your engine. T25, T28, t3/4, 14b, 16g should all be considered(probably left out others as well).

do you understand what else is involved with installing a turbo kit? There are MANY other necessary components you will need.

i know how much its goin to cost i basically wanna buy everything in one shot for exemple the turbonetics kit they have on ebay is running for 1,500 i was told that would be good starter but i kinda wanted to start easy and buy used so if i dont like it i can just rip it out and not mind the lost. ill just put it this way. im not puttin the turbo in to be running seconds at the track. i just want alittle giddy up and a psssssssshhhh after the shift. does that make sense?

and for the edit. i am a ricer who wants to get out of the phase.

sounds like a greddy kit is perfect for you, can be found for way under 1500 which would leave you money for tuning/injectors/fuel pump

run a 16g turbo, vitara rods, and run 16psi ALL DAY LONG. i did it, and i never had any problems.

don’t you mean vitara pistons? :mamoru:

So what are you paying for with that kit? you can get a GT28R, log manifold, downpipe, intercooler, charge pipes and a blow off valve for less than that.

yeah, sorry. I’ve had rods, penises, dicks and shafts on my mind all morning.

meh it happens…we all have our dirty thoughts.

last greddy kit i bought was 500 , if you can get all that for less than tell me where

used greddy kits are all over, again im not saying they are the best, but he just wants cheap boost and i think the greddy kit is the best bang/buck out there thats of decent quality

ah, you said 1500… For $500 I’d agree with you.

eagle rods, and vitara slugs (cryo’d)
