Clipless pedals are no problem on a MTB, you come right out of them without thinking about it if you’re going to dump it, even over the bars. The only exception is going over backwards from a failed wheelie. Then you land on your ass with your bike on top of you, still clipped in.

'58ish Pierce Arrow
 on the Pierce!
My grandmother probably made parts for that Pierce Arrow! Heck yea.
bumping this since I now have a '61 Schwinn Corvette to go with my '56 Schwinn Corvette.
Need to drop seat down and get some truss rods for the front, otherwise its done and ready to ride.
Still riding little kids bikes
aaaand so I don’t look like a total loser, a photo of it being put to use
That bike is killer

Here is how I spend most of my time riding. To date Jr is 35lbs or so. For this year I had to ditch most of the toys that he had in his trailer as it was getting ridiculous. Did 2200 miles with him last year. Pull him up Brown Hill, Keller, Zimmerman, Mayer, the not so steep side of Clarksburg, 75, Shirley, and rode out to Springville with him a few times too.
Unfortunately, this is most likely the last year I will be able to pull him due to size constraints. I actually enjoy pulling him more then riding solo as it is great training. Goal for this year is Heath while pulling him. Yochum was last year-I made it, BARELY.
So my cousin Lou who I haven’t seen in over a decade is up from NC with his wife and their new-ish son, Stone. Freaking kid is a TANK!!! He will be a year in November and he is already over 25lbs. My guy is going to be 4 in November and he was dead nuts 40lbs last night when I put him on the scale. So what beats towing 50lbs up some nice climbs?? Towing 75lbs of stuff. Grabbed Stone so my cousin and his wife could decompress after the drive and I could harden the fuck up towing some weight. I recently switched the cross bike from a 12/26 to a 12/25 and went from a 32c to a 38c tire setup. I actually like the smaller rear cassette better for some reason. Anyways, he was what I lugged around last night-up 1300ft of climbing over 23 miles
And about a mile in this was what occurred
I dropped Stone off and rode home with Jr. I never thought pulling Jr could feel so effortless as it did. All in all, pulling both of them felt like how I feel pulling Jr the first couple rides of the year. Didn’t really even notice the other kid going up Shirley or E Church and was still able to upshift at my normal shifting places.
Nice work Krant. I never pull my kid around farther than around town b/c my wife doesn’t want me rolling through the 2 miles of traffic before I get to the sticks of OP/Aurora.
Heath with the kid in tow is quite an accomplishment, some of the guys I ride with can’t make it up Heath solo.
Idk where any of the other roads you speak of are, I typically ride around 240/Center/Burr/Cole etc , just the OP/Colden/Aurora routes.
Looking at picking up a starter road bike, but have no idea where to begin. Thinking basic street (non-commute) riding and bike path type stuff. Since it’ll be basically a beginner bike for me anything in the $500 area worth getting? Everything I am seeing around is usually $1000 to start.
search Clist for something a bit better but used.
Saw on the book that @Paulo just updated a bicycle…
I’ve done Cole from Ellicott to the end/Scheriff/Brown Hill/ Trevett/Abbott Hill all with him in tow. Shirley is off 62 and it is a nice 5 mile climb, just get it in that gear and work.
bikesdirect.com is a great place for new bikes. They usually have bikes for a price where you couldn’t even put it together for the selling price. Also, I HIGHLY suggest used bikes. So many people buy a bike and use it a handful of times and then sell it. Don’t worry about getting something a few years old but stay current with a 10 speed rear cassette.
Shirley is 26 miles from my house, might head there this sunday to check it out.
Here she is. It was my grandfather’s bike. Just wanted to give it a new life for hopping around north Buffalo. I have a Scott Speedster S40 for longer rides.
The clothes pin was still on the bike from when he used to ride and use the pin to hold his pants away from the chain.
