Bike Crew: Ducati Monster or Triumph Speed Four?

Looking to get my first bike and these are the two that I am currently considering. I’d like to hear some input from any who have owned or ridden either or both of these.

ducati for sure.

i had to google the triumph ,

but after that. for sure the ducati

no offense but isnt that alittle pricey for your first bike. im not saying you dont have the money, but thats an expensive ass bike to learn on…let alone crash…not to mention maintenance on either of those bikes is going to be considerably higher than their japanese competitors.

:word: Not to mention there aren’t many if any Ducati dealers near buffalo.

start on an older jap bike. ride it for a year or 2 and sell it for around what you bought it for. Then if you’re still into it, go Ducati.

speed four = ghey

speed triple > *

Looking for used sub $4k.

There’s one 20 minutes away.

I’m not going to start on a liter bike and I read some really good reviews on the Speed Four.

I’ve always been a fan of the Ducati styling, and you really can’t go wrong with the monster line. Al or Jeff down at Williamsville Ducati 537-2309 (in Holland, NY) can help you find what you’re looking for even if they don’t have one in stock. They often take monsters in on trade or know who might be looking to sell one.

Thanks for the heads up. I have been browsing ebay and craigslist to see what’s out there. Unfortunately, either of them are particularly common bikes. I am definitely open to other ideas, but these are the two that I currently like.

tiumph!!

ducati

you know you love italian styling, sam…

i love duccs but they would not be my first choice for a bike. To put it in perspective for you. Some of the kids that got killed last summer were way over their heads because of the bikes they had. Get yourself something mid 90’s japanese, and a 600. Start slow, ride at your own pace, and do some reading. i can honestly say that stuff i read in a book, really helped improve my riding and saved my ass a few times. obviously reading something wont give you the skills needed, but its a starting point for going out there and practicing the skills you read about.

msf if you haven’t yet.

^^^^^^^^^Dooo ittt. i took one way back when i first started riding. Lisence expired. rode on a permit for like 2 years (re issued every season). Honestly i am thinking of taking it again as a refresher.

Never hurts:tup:

well obviously MSF course before anything else, but I’d have to say go with the triumph over the ducati, only for the simple reason that you’re not going to get yourself in over your head when it comes to repairs and whatnot.

sounds like you have your heart set on a naked sportbike/streetfighter looking bike, have you rode one before?

also my 2 cents…if you’re gonna go with triumph…buy the speed triple, orrr…buy the daytona 675 cuz it is sex on 2 wheels

tripple all the way sir !

Lol, it’s apparent alot of the guys posting don’t know who the OP is. Sam is the most level headed dude I think I’ve ever met. I would have no problems letting Sam take my 10r after he learned the basics of riding.

With that said, I’d go Triumph, there is a dealer a few miles out side of Clarence on Main St that is GREAT. You’re looking at bikes with a bit more maintenance and you aren’t going to have it more than a year or two before you buy a brand new one man, that’s my reasoning. Why drive that long ass trek down the 400 just for some repair or parts ya know. You don’t really live that far from bucks.

Either way keep in touch for a ride this summer!
