BMW Wagons...lets talk! Goods/Bads/Yes'/No's etc

That is an outrageous price for such a mediocre vehicle.

I’d stick with the Honda, Russ…

i would look into the 3 series wagon…parts are much cheaper than the 5 series, more “inline” with parts cost of other makes. i dont see the touring having any unusual quirks that are any different then the coupes/sedans

my e46 has been a really solid car for me. i’ve taken care of the “usual” bmw quirks, and i havent had any problems. it’s currently at 203k miles, and i wouldnt hesitate to drive it to cali and back as is.

anyone that thinks one of these cars is not reliable, really doesnt know what theyre talking about. when its time for me to replace the car, it will be with another bmw.

edit…as for longevity, at 203k miles im still on my original engine/trans. when i did a compression test on the motor at 170k, all cylinders were within 2.5%-5% of each other(195-200 psi). when i do oil changes, the oil coming out looks really good.

The Odyssey has a pretty bad history as far as transmissions up to a certain model year.

I have connections to a nice 2002 Odyssey for sale…

EDIT: 2002…

this is good to know, I have to do a compression/leakdown test this spring. It burns lots of oil, I’m hoping it is just the CCV system. Do you have leakdown numbers?

It’s 99.9% of the time the ccv. Looks like the motor is shot it’ll burn so much out the tail pipe if you let it get bad enough.

BMWs are fucking solid I miss my e46, best car I’ve ever owned

you lost me, bro.

i dont have any issues with burning any oil outside of the norm or losing oil. my valve cover gasket is starting to weap though so i will be taking care of that soon.

i never did any type of leak down, just did a compression test to see where it was at.

what hes saying is that when the ccv gets real bad it will make the car smoke as if the motor was so worn out that it was burning oil.

oh, good. because that is what mine does. lol

LOL

i wonder if he will trade me.

:ham:

For a while? The engines are solid, but electrics, sensors, and other things can prove costly. I had a 325i for a few months but ended up getting rid of it just due to to many issues with sensors window regulators, cooling problems, and just other minor little things. This car had been dealer maintained from the start to. I’m not saying they are bad cars, they just aren’t a car i’d buy for wife and kids is all. That being said, the 5 series wagon is one of the best, if not the best, looking wagon around

Guess you’re bad at maintaining cars, or just buy shitty examples. I think I’ve owned 20+ BMW’s at this point, and had very few problems.

Everyone knows your suppose to service the window regulators every 3 years or 36,000 miles.

you’re crazy man, probably bad luck. best cars ive ever owned.

Now VWs…that’s ANOTHER story…lol

Eh. Ive had 4 vw’s. One with 195k when I sold it. That car NEVER gave me a single problem. Not one CEL in 4 years. It never left me stranded either. It was a 1.8t as well, which everyone seems to hate. Same with my 25 year old scirocco. Only had my R for a few months and so far so good.

Maybe you just had bad luck?

On topic: I’ve always heard the straight 6’s in BMW’s are pretty much bullet proof.

BMWs are solid cars. My dad has owned just about every generation 3 series ever made ('80,87,94,99,2004,2006) and never had an issue with any of them. Growing up I didn’t even know cars would break down till my mom bought a Bronco II LOL

X…
