BMW Wagons...lets talk! Goods/Bads/Yes'/No's etc

hahahah

Bad at maintaining cars? The car was fully dealer maintained since new owned by a doctor who literally babied the thing. May have been a shitty example, but i’m just saying that was my experience, doesn’t mean all are bad. Uncle had 2 1988 3’s that he ran until 300k mile until one he donated and another he sold to a patient, both silver sedans with red interiors, liked those

There’s a super nice looking E39 Touring (think it’s a V8 maybe?) for sale at the corner of Sheridan and Grand Island blvd, right next to the Praxair entrance. It has the super-rare M-Parallels on it, so it’s probably a sport package.

Kind of want to stop in there and see if they’ll trade my style 66s for those M parallels +cash….hmmm

So we too have been looking for something a little bigger than our B5 A4 Avant and the thought of E60 535xi wagon came to mind.

Any thoughts on one of these? How is the AWD, the 6spd auto trans etc?

Dan

The trans that BMW uses for the most part is built by ZF the same company that builds the audi trans so they are known to suffer from the same problems, valve body issues, and TQ converter failers.
as for the AWD i hate hate hate how they feel. a BMW uses a transfer-case and a drive-shaft to the front, so there is more “slack” to be taken up when shifting, launching, anything and you feel it when the cars get older.

Side note we just picked up a BMW Wagon at the shop Ill try to get pictures unfortinitly its just RWD and auto.

I recently got a bmw wagon. :snky:

What’s wrong with having an auto & rwd?

Who is going to be the primary driver? Expecting your wife to drive it much in the winter? My wife refuses to even move my GTO around the driveway in the winter. RWD + most women + snow do not mix.

This.

Exactly why Im again looking for something AWD. My wife just LOVES her Audi wagon. The thought of moving up into an A6 scares me a little for some reason. Im not sure the 535 would be any better/different. Im used to working on the VAG platform, but when there is a $20k msrp difference between the A4 and A6 Avant in a given model year it makes me wonder.

Dan

EVEN IF YOU ONLY HAVE ONE CHILD , THE INTERIOR FROM THE 54OI SEDAN BACK SEAT IS THE SAME AS THE WAGON. ILL GIVE YOU THE PLUS ON THE ADDED STORAGE IN THE BACK FOR WHAT NOT. DO YOU REALLY WANT TO BE WORKING ON THE WAGON EVERY WEEKEND WHEN IT BRAKES DOWN… WELL DEPENDING ON WHAT MOTOR IT HAS. I JUST SOLD MY 540I , NOT A GOOD DAILY FOR HAVING A CHILD. I WOULD LOOK INTO SOMETHING ELSE FOR THE MONEY YOU CAN GET SOMETHING THAT WILL STILL HAVE GOOD STYLING AND NOT OPT OUT FOR THE HONDA VAN. JUST MY INPUT TAKE IT AS YOU MAY…

Caps lock?

possibly, my ears are still ringing though

Well, there arent too many german wagon choices. I think my other option is to look at some newer GM (gasp) crossover/ small suvs.

Dan

GERMAN WAGON CHOICES ARE FAR AND FEW BETWEEN , THERE THE MAZDA WAGON6 … SAAB93 OR 95 WAGON…

Ya, no AWD in the mazda 6 and saab, ya no thanks. Plus they arent any bigger (rear seating room) than the A4 we already have.

Is a wagon style vehicle a must?

fx35/45 is a phenomenal crossover SUV. X3 is probably a pretty solid crossover as well. BMW awd might not be as good as the audi, but maybe it’s better than nothing.

SAAB COME AWD … THERE ALWAYS A SUBARU

Wagon is not a must. We just like them because its close to a sedan with the bonus cargo room. So they are still fairly small, decent mpg, etc.

I wont own an Infinity. EDIT: I wont own a subaru either.

X3 could work, but the wagons acutally have more rear leg room. So idfk.

Dan

Does anyone else read a post in all caps and just assume that the text has zero merit due to it?
