BMW X3 ABS/4x4/DSC help

I had a bad crankshaft position sensor, which I replaced. Once I replaced it, the vehicle went crazy about a day later. Here’s the symptoms: Brake, 4x4, and automatic transmission warning light all stay illuminated. The vehicle bucks and jerks, searches for gears as the RPM’s bounce all over. The battery light will flash when the RPM’s bounce. It has a new alternator and the battery is at 88% charged after being tested.

Here’s the codes I had pulled:

ECM:

2718 Crankshaft sensor: reference mark
3CD1 Crankshaft sensor: signal
279C Thermostat, map cooling: activation

DSC:

5EB1 Steering angle sensor, supply
5F21 Engine management interface
5F41 Transmission control, limp-home operation

Gearbox Control Module:

54C6 oil wear
55C4 No message from DSC
55C5 No message from engine management

Central Body Module: total codes 11

4C passenger mirror internal error: timer watchdog
0D Power window open circuit jam protection strip lost or caling error EKS electronic driver’s door
0E Power window open circuit jam protection strip lost or caling error EKS electronic passenger door
0F Power window open circuit jam protection strip lost or caling error EKS electronic driver’s door behind
10 Power window open circuit jam protection strip lost or caling error EKS electronic passenger side behind
6B no answer passenger mirror
6A no answer switch block
6C no answer drivers mirror
33 wiper: is blocking or reset contact
5F driver mirror: potentiometer axel 2/4
3A Wiper: replay pump or wire for headlight cleaning system

I looked at the plastic gear in the transfer case actuator, it was fine, no wear or missing teeth whatsoever. At this point I’m thinking something is shorted out. I’m at a total loss on this one. Any help would be appreciated. 2004 BMW X3 2.5i

I’m not a BMW guy buy any stretch of the imagination, but a lot of vehicles require a crank position variation learn after replacing a balancer, sensor or ECM???

you have single handedly made me probably never buy a bmw. haha

It’s probably something simple and dumb.

From all of those things givin supply/no contact codes it seems you have something big unplugged, or maybe tripped a major fuse. Get pokin!

I’ll get to checking right now!

Lol. I saw the thread title and came in here to tell him to stop buying BMWs

LOL… I’ve had this one for 5 years

I took Benny’s advice and went through everything. The Crankshaft sensor bolt backed itself lose. The original bolt had locktite, where as the new bolt, which came with the sensor didn’t. With a little loctite and retightening, the transmission issue is gone for now, hopefully good. I’ll do a few drive cycles then have the codes pulled again. Adam, as for my next car, I’ve been looking at Porches 996 Carrera or a Lotus Elise, nothing new, but in the mid 2000’s. I won’t pick it up until next spring anyhow, so I have a lot of time to make a decision. Again thanks for the help.

hope that’s all it was, holy shit what a bunch of finnicky pieces of shit

^ Lol, CJ here has to be one of the nicest people I’ve met in person and he always manages to have these cars fuck him in the ass, most of which is stupid little shit like this :rofl
