can i drive someone’s BMW??:x:

hey Kmurph i think i remember u at the Prelude meet they had there over summer…u knew the fast asain dude in the E46 M3 i think…i was with the kid who had the M coupe…the old man in the NSX slid into him comin into turn 9 or 10

Yeah…that was me. The fast Asian dude is a friend of mine. He’s the BMWCCA driver’s school chair so he’ll be at the Driver’s School but probably won’t be driving.

…so whatever happened to your friend’s car? I sort of know the guy in the NSX…I’ve been with him several times at the track. He’s a nice guy. It’s unfortunate what happened. Hopefully, everything worked out ok.

hrrm… maybe its time the cobra went out and did a few twisties

what do you guys think about Nitto Extreme 555R2’s?

I don’t know anything about the R2s…A friend put the NT555s street tire on his M3 in 235/35/19 and 265/30/19 sizes and he thinks they’re a “piece of junk.” He says they don’t hook up at all…not enough grip…but I’ve also heard great things about them as well…so I don’t know what to think.

I’m sure the R2s are pretty good. Afterall, Nittos are made by Toyo and they have a good reputation. I’ve heard that the Toyo RA1s are a decent tire. It’s the tire that the Speed World Challenge cars use. You might want to look into them.

If you’re thinking about getting a R compounds, the TireRack has a great special on some Dunlops but most of the available sizes are in 18"…not sure what size you’re looking for.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp?make=Dunlop&model=SP+Super+Sport+Race

With regards to R compounds, I’ve only run Hoosiers…they stick like nothing else.

from my understanding the R2’s are a very good road course tire

eh, I currently run 275/40/17. But I’m looking into a set of 18’s. 18x9 front, 18x11 in the rear.

So prob looking for sizes such as 275/35/18 up fron, and 315(or 335)/30/18 in the rear

If I were to buy a set of wheels specifically for the track, I’d get a square setup…otherwise, you risk introducing more understeer…a square setup also gives you more options with regards to rotating which is convenient since at most tracks, the left side tires tend to wear a lot faster…especially the left front. Does the Cobra tend to oversteer or understeer from the factory? If your car oversteers by nature, then, obviously, wider rear tires would be the way to go but would limit you if you want/need to rotate them.

My car is set up to understeer so I try to do everything I can to get rid of it. I’ve been using my OEM 18s for the track w/ 245/40/18 Hoosiers…which is equivalent to a 265 width street tire. Keep in mind that a lot of R compounds run larger than street tires in the same width.

The sizes you’re looking for are going to be tougher to find…you also might want to look into some Kumhos…that’s the problem with R compounds…there’s not as many sizes available…mostly with 18s.

whatever combo most Viper guys run, is what they usually recomend for Cobras
the Cobra loves to understeer

beaver is a cool place now all they need is a drag strip

He wanted that guy to pay for it to get fixxed he refused and gave him a hard time about it…so he just got the car fixxed on his own…he tracked that car many times before and he told me before we were goin on the track that he didnt wana track it to much anymore cus he was scared something like that would happen…so hes done runnin that car…hes talkin about gettin a 95 e36 M and just makin that a track car.

That’s one thing that does scare me about tracking…the last thing I want to do is wreck my car…and the fact that everyone is responsible for their own car…regardless.

I went off the track at Nelson Ledges recently and that sort of woke me up…The damage wasn’t that bad but I screwed up the front and rear bumper covers a little and crunched two of my exhaust pipes…thankfully, it wasn’t any worse.

During the Spring (at BeaveRun), a driver in a B5 Audi S4 broadsided an unsuspecting driver in his wife’s 2004 M3 in turns 10-11…both cars were totalled…and, obviously, no insurance company is going to pay for it…stuff like that scares me…

i was under the impression that if it was a driving school that insurance does cover the car in most cases. So I think thats why the kid with the M Coupe was so pissed the other guy wouldn’t give his info

Some Insurance Companies will cover it but most have recently been changing their policies to not include any type of driving on a high speed closed circuit. The same company’s policies even differ from state to state.

I guess if you’re ever in an accident on the track,it doesn’t hurt to contact your insurance company. I would just be worried that they might drop your coverage after the incident even if they do cover the damages.

This is why Im selling my car and getting a d/d and a track car so if anything bad does happen it wont be the end of the world.

What if some1 hit you on the track and it wasnt your fault…u cant tell me u wouldnt try and get that guy to pay for your damages…u might say that you wouldnt now but if it ever did happen i think any1 would.

especially when he was in the wrong,

he either A lost control of his car, or B tried passing in that turn… both not acceptable
