Boat 18-24 feet, V6+ I/O, Open Bow < $13k

Looking for a boat and so far have not found many fitting what I’m looking for on CL or dealers. I found one Chaparral 190 SSi with the 4.3 that is about perfect other then the price is $17500. We haven’t ruled out 18-21’ jet boats (most seem to be Sea Doo). Anyone ever own or own one now? Any impressions/advice on how they handle rougher water, maintenance, etc? Most reviews have the traditional stern drive boats rated better.

Please don’t get a jet boat they are piles of shit. The motors suck, they use tons of fuel. They get seaweed loaded with in the intakes, overheat the hose and they blow off and pump water inside the boat. Look on boat trader for a SeaRay repo. You can score one cheaper than the Chaparral.

I have a Chaparral 180sse and love it. Just the 3.0 4 cyl but the majority of the time it’s enough. I would suggest going with the 4.3 though in the 18-19 foot range or 5.0 v8 in the 20-22. Definitely go stern drive unless you’re trying to recreate the jet ski experience in a boat.

Well - jet boats are out!! I will check out SeaRay. I found a couple that fit the requirements over in the Rochester/Finger Lakes region.

I have a maxum with the 4.3 it’s an 18ft open bow I’ve had the 3.0 in the same configuration and would never go back. Also mines for sale if your interested hit me up for details.

Thanks for the leads. I ended up with a 99 Glastron 225 with a 5.0. I like the wider beam when moving from a 18-19’ to the 22.5’. Should handle the rougher water water a bit better. I’ll have to wait and see how it goes this season.
