Boats

Tell me what you know.

I am looking at these:

I’m a boat newb, so don’t assume I know anything. I’m looking for something small, cheap, and fun for ripping around the east river and puttering along the canal. A little 4-6 person jet boat seem ideal, but how is maintenance and reliability? I can dock it at my inlaws if I want (they live on east river on GI and have their own dock) but I might just launch it from the park in NT across the river.

I dunno. Discuss. Please and thank you.

They are a lot of fun, but any sort of chop and they pound like crazy. Fine for the river where you plan to use it. If I were to buy a stinkpot, it would be one of these…Or a 35’ diesel trawler

Good point. I forget the terms, but the hull doesn’t stick very far into the water. Which means spinouts are possible, but not much wave cutting.

Oh well, fine by me. No desire to go out into the lake anyway.

Spinouts are fun though, as long as you meant to do it :roflpicard:

A jetboat is essentially a large jetski. Everyone I know who’s owned one sold it and bought a different boat. They’re OK on ponds and things like that where there is no real wake to deal with but other than that they just bounce all over the place. You also don’t need jetski type maneuvering in a boat.

My friend used to put his practically underwater for a couple seconds. That was cool.

they are a blast but just like a jet ski WEEDS ARE A PITA

I had an 04 AR 210 and absolutely loved it. 21 ft so the waves didn’t beat it up too bad and topped out about 55 or so.I would spend around the 10K range and get a similar 01-02 Yamaha one.The less fancy ones can be had for that all day and seem very reliable

i would recommend the 1997 Seadoo twin jet boat

Seadoos are well known for reliability and function
Marine rotax engines last a while and are lower matnence than the other 3 boats engines. the 1997 Seadoo is like a solid chice to start off with

The ones with dual jetski engines will cost you a fortune to use, and 2-stroke reliability is not all that great. I’d definitely try to get a 4-stroker.

i was just talking about picking one of these up earlier this morning. i think i’d prefer a more traditional boat though.

The jet boats are a little harder to dock and drive at slower speeds compared to a regular boat but other then that they are really fun.

I’ve heard they use a ton of fuel relative to a “conventional” propulsion boat.

Edit: Slow top speed but decent acceleration. Can run shallow waters with less damage than a prop boat. If you’re going to swim off of one - no prop is a plus too. On other hand cleaning up ropes and seaweed from the pump sucked.

This one looks good too.

Explain?

buy that… i saw one the other day… totally badass. can be had for 15-20k all day…

damn def. cool but that would be weird the first few times

they can climb to 10,000 feet, cruise at 60 mph, and go 80 miles on the stock gas tank… not bad, id be worried about crashing and burning though, you’d never see me more than 10 ft out of the water… lol

i saw one jump over a couple houses from the inlet into the ocean… soo cool.

sorry to hijack, figured itd be a cooler option for you mr. fry.

I’m going to buy one of those and take it off the edge of the falls!

Anyway, looks like these things get about 2 miles per gallon. Not bad as far as boats go, no?
