"The witness interviewed last night said shootout, they threw a pressure cooker ied at officers and set it off, black hat charged the two dozen or so officers and was tackled, somewhere in there he allegedly detonated something on his body.
white hat hops back in jacked suv, drives right through the officers, running over his brother in the process, and gets away.
Attending doc said multiple gunshot wounds and blast injuries on black hat consistent with explosion."
If you can’t defend your home with a shotgun, as opposed to a high-powered assault rifle, you suck at life. If you’re the typical inexperienced shitty shot, it’s probably better since you can spray and pray, plus you don’t have to worry about taking out your neighbors through walls.
I have my choice of dozens of guns and if I had to pick one for stopping power on an intruder to my home, I’d be packing my 10-gauge.
I wasnt trying to say that an AR is the best choice, or even a good one, just that lots of these people think that ALL guns are bad, and hopefully that will change based on this event.
I sincerely doubt buckshot has nearly the penetrating power of 5.56 nato.
Having shot plenty of things in my life, plus the fact that they try to produce frangible 5.56 rounds to combat this exact problem; leads to me believe this.
A shotgun sprays your wall and all the shit sticks in there. If you’re in a crappy apartment with thin walls maybe they have something to worry about but the house next door is fine. Of the 10 rifle rounds you unload (7 in NY? :tif: ) it only takes 1 to go through your wall and kill your neighbor.
Summary The 55 grain HP .223 has less penetration than any of the other ammunition tested. Based on the results of this testing, there appears to be no basis for concern regarding the over penetration of the .223 [HP] round. In fact, it seems even safer in this regard than .40 S&W handgun ammunition.
The hollow point cavity in the .40S&W round filled with material when shot through the wall. This caused [these bullets] to fail to expand when they entered the gelatin. As a result, they penetrated 8.5" farther than when shot directly into the gelatin.
When the .223 [HP] was shot through he wall it began to fragment and as a result penetrated the gelatin only 5.5".
Because the .223 [HP] begins to break up on impact, it has less potential for damage or injury than the 12 ga. in the event of a ricochet. The .223 [HP] is obviously safer in an urban environment than the 12 ga. with slugs or buckshot.
Additional testing conducted proved that the .223 would penetrate a car door or glass. The .223 rounds fired into windshields began to break up after entering the glass and did not retain much energy. In most cases these rounds split in two.
I have been driving all day today. Downloaded the UStream app and played the scanner. Really interesting to hear what is happening and then to check back with CNN, Fox, etc… and see that they are so far behind the 8 ball on this stuff. CNN is reporting that the suspect may be driving around in the green Honda Civic, however I overheard on the scanner that they called out that plate and one of the officers stated that car was right in front of him unoccupied. They even ran a Vin # to double check it.
