I understand but i also think its stupid. Im not a pussy but there should be some kind of training for first responders nowadays. look at Iraq, Afghanistan. Thats what they want you to do.
^^ I’ve been in situations on the job where adrenaline takes over and your first instinct is to run in… it takes someone who is a bit more calm/pulled together to pull people back until the danger is cleared (fire, chemical spill, active shooter etc)
So they have a person of interest and they very quickly called it terrorism as well.
Isn’t it terrorism no matter what?
Dude I guess my cousin was at the finish line watching her friends run in it 30 mins prior, then decided to go to the library at school instead of watching the rest of her friends finish. I’m glad she’s okay, this is ridiculous…makes you think what if they decide to do something similar at a large Buffalo running event.
I was thinking the same thing…Just over a month until the Buffalo Marathon which is dwarfed in comparison to Boston, but still. I’m running the half so I severely hope this is a one time thing, but who knows nowadays.
Pretty sure you’ll be fine at the Buffalo Marathon.

It’s Buffalo. I love WNY but I can admit we’re not what anyone would call a priority national target.
-
They just hit a marathon. If there’s one thing this country is good at, it’s knee jerk targeted over-reaction for the sake of looking like we’re protecting people. Marathon security is going to be insane for the next year or so (until we get bored with it and forget) and terrorists will simply move on to any of the hundreds of other places/events where large numbers of innocent people gather.
Im seriously surprised that sporting events havent been targeted sooner.
Think of any areana/stadium, with a game on national TV, no metal detectors, national attention, massive crowd all packed together, high profile athletes.
Just seems too easy.
Speaking of “too easy”…New years eve in NYC is the shocker to me. How there hasn’t been a major attack there blows my mind. I would never put myself in a crowd like that, just seems too big a target for my liking.
You’re really seeing the pluses and minuses of social media “news” with this event.
Plus: You got first had accounts and uncensored images from the scene without the spin, censorship and giant self promoting banners/tickers that mainstream media provides.
Minus: You got news from sources that have zero accountability to be accurate. Like the picture of the 8 year old girl with the marathon ID on her shirt supposedly killed that everyone is retweeting, despite the fact that the marathon is an 18 and older event, and that the 8 year old killed was actually a boy.
I saw some pictures on Twitter yesterday that were uncensored for sure. There was one picture of these girls laying on the ground, obviously hurt from the explosion and there is a nurse checking her pulse…she looks completely unresponsive. It really is sad all the speculation people are throwing around on their FB and Twitter accounts and how it is so simple for some people to disregard any emotion towards this situation. They want to turn it all into political bullshit and blame “right wing nut jobs” or the government for setting this up on Patriot’s Day to take a jab at the U.S. citizens. It really makes me upset to see such a disconnected society. Looks at the facts instead of what you think you know based on what you have been spoon fed by the media.
Facebook is litered with completely misguided and false stories. There’s one where a guy is huddled over a girl and the story goes something like this; “This man was going to propose to his girlfriend at the finishline, but she was killed instead, remember your loved ones and hold them tight.” The two people pictured aren’t even runners and the girl isn’t even dead. People are so strange.
I think people want to grab something that they can hold on to and relate to. As if the bombing wasn’t bad enough, we have to deal with dram queens and Facebook yuppies who want the attention on them instead of the real issue. There is an 8 year old child who will never grow up to be apart of anything in this world and all people want to focus on is that this was a setup by the government or someone who was tired of trying to have their guns taken away. Sometimes I’m ashamed of my generation and the ones below me just for how disconnected they are from the real things that matter in life.
Yes but if you remember his first term he never wanted to use that term.
Did anyone catch the 8:30 press conference last night? during the Q&A?
The first question was “Was this a false flag operation to take more rights away from the US citizens”
This, also the Pray for Boston posts with the text overlaying the bloody sidewalk…Done in bad taste. Before you start posting these stories of people getting killed that weren’t even there or little kids dying that aren’t true; so some fact checking first.
As if losing your child isn’t enough, the father of the 8 year old boy has to now worry about his wife who has undergone brain surgery and a younger daughter who lost a leg. Ugh, this is terrible.
I rank Alex Jones right up there with Westboro Baptist Church.
I’m more and more disappointed with the state of our society. sometimes I wish I could just buy a secret island somewhere and move all my loved ones there with me and live a self-sufficient life.
The TRIA (Terrorism Risk Insurance ACT) is used in the insurance world to determine how losses will be paid for in the event of a terrorist attack.
It defines an act of terrorism as an act certified by the Secretary of the Treasury, in concurrence with the Secretary of the Stat, and the Attorney General of the U.S. with the following characteristics:
- The act must be violent or dangerous to human life, property, or infrastructure.
2.The act must have resulted in damage within the U.S, to an air craft carrier as defined in the US code, to a US flag vessel or other vessel based principally in the US and insured under US regulation, or on the premises of any US mission
3.The act must have been committed by someone as part of an effort to coerce the US civilian population, to influence US policy, or to affect the conduct of the US government by coercion. - The act must produce property and casualty insurance losses in excess of a specified dollar amount.
In 2007 they revised this and removed that a person is acting on behalf of a foreign person or interest.
Soooo in the insurance world, you don’t have to have all these in order for it to be considered an act of Terrorism. I am willing to bet it is the same outside too.
