i’ll be honest: I grew up in shaler. i don’t really know any black people in real life. I dated a chick a few years back who was of multiracial (black/hispanic) descent, and I bullshit with a few black guys that I deliver to, but I don’t really have any black friends because I don’t really ever see any black people. What cracks me up is when racist people I went to high school with used to use that “Some of my best friends are black” line… as if we had more than three black people in the whole school (and I knew they weren’t friends with them).

yeah its too bad that we have to have it…i don’t like the idea of it either but the fact is that without it…high qualified minorities(women included) would be looked over so a white male could be chosen…

yep, i agree. its a tough topic to have a conversation about w/o offending ppl. i guess racism is always gonna be an issue to some degree. i still think its too easy for minorities (economic and race) to be quick to use every opportunity to call on it as soon as something doesnt go in their favor. i realize this isnt always the case, but alot of times i feel it is.
from my perspective you can also get a underqualified “minority” hired over a more qualified “majority”. so again its just creating rifts and dividing more.
oh…with affirmative action i agree…it can cause a hiring of lesser qualified people…but without it…it causes minorities to be over looked a lot more then people think.
ill give it that. maybe in 50 years we wont need anything like it. i hope so atleast. i dont want my kids (when i have them) to grow up viewing race and income levels as a means to judge people.
yep. when i have kids i want it to be the same way also. i know overall in society ppl will always have different views, but i am sensitive about that stuff and i want my kids to look at all ppl the same way.
and you just made a 6 page post over ONE NEWS ARTICLE ON YAHOO. i saw the same one, we all did… then bloggers ran with it and so did you. should you be pissed… yup. but it was one article on one internet news source. if there were more, i never heard of them, but i tend to just read headlines
and while racism was obvious in that news article i think mosta the stranded ppl in NO aren’t due to race… it’s due to government stupidity. i’ve worked for them at several levels, and you can’t wipe your ass without filing something in triplicate and then waiting for a manager to review it. i mean they basically get paid to make things as in-eficient as possible. goto the post office or DMV… on a small scale monkey could do it level… they can’t do their jobs well. let alone the managers (READ narcs that ratted out enuff ppl to move up the ladder)
