Bringing Tires From Canada To U.S.?

So this topic may have been touched early last year without too much info. I did some google searching and have only found bringing tires from the U.S. into Canada. I’m strongly considering buying some tires from the network wide wheels and tires. Guy is selling some 225/40-18 nittos for 450 Canadian. My issue is bringing them back. I don’t know if there is going to be tax or duty. Another issue is these tires still have the original stickers on. Now i can take them off and say “well these are used” however I don’t want to do that. However if I have no receipt stating I bought them new I’m worried they will be like “oh this puerto rican stole some tires and is now trying to flee the country” haha. Any one go through this have any insight?

I moved this to the network forum so that the Canadian guys can chime in as well.

I used to run 225/40/18 on my E36… you can buy a brand new set of kumho ASTs for less than that shipped from discount tires direct.

Just have the seller write a paper receipt saying you purchased some 2nd hand tires (because they are) and list the price for cheap. And have him sign it. Definitely take the stickers off first though.

I looked on tire rack and ebay forgot discount tire though. Thanks! they have a 25 off each tire promotion now till thursday. Free shipping and all. Now I have to decide kumo ast or asx or nitto nt’s.

Side note thank you for moving this good sir!

I’ve done this before. Border didnt give two shits.

I would say find a shop that will mount and drive on the rims no one ever questions them on the car.

but in general tires are cheaper here, so you wont find much info. I have alot of canadians who come here to get there car serviced as its alot cheaper they tell me.

My dad told me the same thing when i asked for his advice. The only issue is whoever put these tires on originally used 225/45-18 and stock size is 225/45-17. Right now I have one stock rim and the rest the 18’s. I’m worried about prolonged driving with that one wheel due to the differential spinning in different speeds between the two.

wait, you are driving around with 3 18’s and 1 17 right now?

I have a company vehicle so I don’t daily the car. However to get it home yesterday yes I had to drive with 3 18’s and one 17 as the tire blew yesterday while I was driving it.

I felt not smart haha

I guess thats not as bad as i initially jumped to. anyways, the border wont care, or at least they didnt when I did this exact same thing 2 winters ago. get a handwritten receipt.

I have brought back a car load of tires from Bing, no issues at the border.

nothing wrong with that. I had to drive all the way from Dunville back to rochester, NY with 3 18s and a 16 when I broke a wheel. no problem.
