Anyone else without power at the moment?
Lots of trees down, stuff on fire etc up here on hamilton mountain.
I was out for a bit this morning and the whole area was a catastrophe.

Most of NY was lucky, the city of Buffalo only got a little. North is worse I hear.
Bing, did you stock up on syrup with the advancing storm?
Lol. Well played.
elmarillacaster is fine, but I drove to Medina today. A few down trees as soon as Crittenden - Corfu area, and that was only 10 miles away. A lot more accumulation that direction and points north. Got lucky as my destination had power.
My mom lives in Gouverneur, down trees, power out, etc. Glad I didn’t go home for Christmas this weekend. Stolen from facebook:
I’m going up tomorrow night, I hope this doesn’t hamper my holiday binge drinking.
this is all i got from today:
around the corner a huge limb fell off a tree pretty high up and is just teetering off the hydro wires on a busy street… too dark to get a decent photo but it has to be a 300+ lb tree limb

here is that limb on the main street i mentioned. we were just driving past it and snapped this.
Looks like that “October Storm” we had in Buffalo a few years ago.
Some of the pics from my place. Few power outages, some downed limbs and stuff, but overall we ended up a lot better off than I was expecting.
I used to have 2 ponds. Now I have like 9
Bro, DO YOU EVEN ICE!?
As someone who was on the NY/Quebec border for the ice storm in 1998 this was nothing. We had over 3" of ice at my mom’s house. To give you an idea what that’s like… it put down a layer of ice so thick I could drive my 4wd Geo Tracker on top of the snow without breaking through the ice.
Those monster power towers that bring power down from the hydro projects in Canada? Crumpled like toys:
^^ Damn.
Yeah, there is really no way to explain how surreal it was to live through that. I doubt I will ever experience a more unique weather event in my life. We were without power for 12 days. On the 2nd day I remember calling the state police to see if it was ok drive the 15 miles to Massena to try getting a generator on the shipment that was coming in and being told “we can’t give you permission to drive during a travel ban, but we have two 4wd police vehicles for all of franklin county so if you need a generator you should probably just do what you need to do”.
Off topic but is massena still a town? I used to go there to pick up your American snacks and drinks but I’ve heard the mall has since been shut down.

I lived in Albany at the time, my grandparents lived in the central Adirondacks. It took them months to get a tree guy out to their property. My dad went up to cut the tree off their roof and patch it for them until spring. What a mess that was.
We had a good amount up by my house Sunday morning (happened overnight), but then most of Rochester had none.
This is all we got. Some ice and a ton of water.
