We have spent a considerable amount of time working in both the automotive and videogame worlds, and in that time we have learned two very profound truths:
Most movie-based games are nothing more than poorly-designed pieces of software whose sole purpose of existing is to generate more dollars for shallow and soulless multinational media conglomerates.
Universal’s Fast and Furious movie franchise is a joke amongst the import tuning/enthusiast community.
So with those two truths in mind, one can imagine the struggle NamcoBandai faces with its upcoming PS2 racer based on the third Fast and Furious film. Most people out there are likely thinking that The Fast and the Furious is nothing more than a crappy street racing game based on a crappy street racing movie. We know that’s what we thought when we first heard that a F&F: Tokyo Drift-based game was in development.
However, the third F&F movie actually did a good job of capturing the tuning and drift scenes. Furthermore, we’ve actually spent some time with the F&F game, and it seems more like a love letter to the JDM scene than it does a Fast and Furious game. We wanted to find out more about Fast and Furious: The Home Version, so we asked F&F producer Mitch Boyer to spill the goods on its Japan-based racer. Mitch likes to talk about this game – a lot. So be prepared to read, kids!
Very cool article, and looks like a powerful tool in game.
D1GP is available at Gateway Games, it’s right beside Hudson Bar and Tap House, I wanna’ play that F&F game, Namco Bandai has always made good games and done relatively well crossing over simulation and arcade style gameplay.
Im playing this and its actually alright. I got a 180sx as a first car. but the game reminds me a lot like i think it was street racing syndicate or was it need for speed where in single player mode you can drive around the city to hot spots etc.
but i still think tokyo extreme racer series is the best out there
You can drive around in both Street racing syndicate and NFSU:2. I migth rent this to give it a try, but I think I am goign to stick to GT4 and ToCa Race Driver 3. All this figure skating just makes me want a RWD car
