Buying a computer? HELP!!!

I could really use some help in picking out a computer for playing games. I have a laptop right now and the video card cannot handle WoW. What would I need to be able to play this game properly? In misc. this comp is for sale:

Custom Built

  • AMD Athlon XP 2500+
  • 512mb DDR PC2100 SDRAM
  • 60GB Western Digital HDD
  • 10/100 Network and USB 2.0
  • CD-RW Drive
  • DVD-ROM Drive
  • Soundblaster Audigy Gamer 5.1
  • Geforce 2 video card
    ^$300
What changes would I need to make if any and what would be a good monitor to buy that is not too expensive? I appreciate any help.

A better video card, another 512 mb of ram. processor should be fine for a lil while lol. everything out dates fast. expect to spend 200 to upgrade for newer games.

Any links to what I should buy from newegg or something? I seriously am retarded when it comes to this stuff. And I work in IT lol.

Better options available or should I buy that and add to it?

im out of touch on video cards, so ill let someone else chime in on that. but ne stick of pc2100 512 mb would be good. trust me 512 is good, thats what i had, but 1 gig is just so much better for games like mohaasp or other demanding games.

Just honestly, dont skimp out on the MOBO/CPU/VIDCARD

and you might want to go with fast mem than 2100. . .

ud have to upgrade both sticks then…it needs a few $$$ for it to be great.

Another 512 is a must.

I wouldnt go spending a ton on an AGP graphics card, but there are still good ones out there yet…

6600GT
9700pro
9800pro
6800GT
6800GS

I’d probably go with this puppy if I was on a budget.

9700pro’s on ebay go for like $75,$100 for a 9800.Still good cards.

My old system was a XP-2500/512/9500pro and it ran Halo for PC pretty good.Never was sluggish.

Completely confused.

Another 512MB for that system can be had dirt cheap (under $50). Video card upgrade is a MUST, I think Jack has an ati9800 for sale still could probably get that cheap. And maybe another hard-drive.

EDIT: Holy fuck I can’t spell names

i’ll send you the shopping cart for christina’s computer from newegg.

I use a 9700 128 with 512 ram, p5 3.0 w h/t on my laptop, and I can still run any game at near top settings with a useable frame rate. Yes, 1GB ram is nice, but you can get by with 512.

What if I build something like this except with a cheaper casing? Is this everything I would need?

Total build cost : $670 and that leaves you enough to be slightly under $1,000 with a 19in LCD.

fix ur links

Sorry, I believe links are fixed.

Start off easy here, the mobo is a socket 949, so you need a 949 processor otherwise it wont fit. case and psu look good to me. ram looks good. pc3200 is plenty for wat u said u want to do, u can go higher speed but not necessary. vid card doesnt look bad but i dont know much bout them.

Was looking at Alienware systems. Would this be a good deal? Would I have to upgrade anything for gaming?

AMD is wiping the floor with intel.

The newegg system you had going is similar to what im building, looks similar to the system I suggested to someone in another thread, all of that stuff you picked out is really good.Processor…i’d reccomend a A64 3200+,socket 939.

That must be a budget alienware system, its quite skimpy for $1000.

I tell people time and time again, and I JUST ordered a system from them 2 days ago.

With the 1000 you spend on what looks like one of the most basic systems from Alienwarerapeyouofyourwallet.orgy you’ll do a ton better at cyberpower.

I basically copy and pasted what you put in another thread lol. Thanks for your help.
