Car doesn't pull in first :(.

Hey guys…

Just today for some reason I had to get on it a bit in first and it doesn’t even pull at all…the RPMs go up but 3-6k rpm it’s going so slow while i’m flooring it…it goes like maybe 1/3 or 1/4 of how fast it should be…

2nd gear seems to pull fine…way more than first anyways…

Any ideas?

i’d say unless you’re trying to launch/race don’t push it in first… just use it to get into second and then go nuts. the KA makes most of it’s power in the low RPM’s anyways… no need to stretch the gears (especially 1st) past 5500rpm.

i don’t even like to stomp on my SR in first gear… just doesn’t seem necessary to me.

Assuming your clutch isn’t slipping, perhaps look into some basics such as a fuel filter and/or your air filter, resetting ECU, double-checking timing, plug wires even, just some of the simple stuff that could cause high-RPM power loss.

If you’re losing a lot of oil or if it persists, might want to double-check engine compression numbers as well.

Alright thanks, and why not go in first? It’s not like I redline it but this one time I needed to go I was gonna shift at 4 and noticed it owuld pull at all after 3… so I tried it again till or 6 and it didn’t pull :(.

I’ll have a look tomorrow tho, thanks guys…

no need to rev above 3500-4000rpm unless you have to rip it in order to safely merge onto the highway since the minivans in front of you decide to merge at 60km/h.

as previously stated, use first to get into second. seems to pull a lot harder in 2nd and 3rd.

good luck with your problem.

Out of curiosity - did your gas pedal feel stiffer than normal today?

big byrd thanks for the GL.

Jack, I didn’t notice it being any stiffer than usual…

BTW, I know my fuel sending unit leaks and my spark plug wires are missing the rubber seals… could either of those be causing the problem?

I also got an oil change at Midas the day before this happened…could they ahve fucked something up? what should I check? Oil level is fine…

Thanx

sell it and buy a civic. problem solved.

You could try a tune up and replacing that leaky sending unit before any other expenses.

I found 2 similar threads that have some useful suggestions - some not related to s13 or nissans - but it’s same s8 different wrapping.

Less expensive stuff you could do:

  1. checking if your calipers are locking - go on a slight grade and put in neutral - see if it rolls or stops on a slope - see how much it takes to move it - that’s your brake resistance (I tested an acura once which decelerated almost as fast in neutral as it accelerated 0-100)

  2. checking spark plugs - they’ll tell you how your engine’s running

  3. cleaning the MAF (peek inside throttle body - or take a long swab to see how much stuff sits in there

  4. checking the pcv (valve)

Not sure how familiar you are with the engine bay - PM me if you need an extra hand with this.

Thanks a lot…good stuff there  I’ll definately try this stuff out when I get a chance…I have a whole list of things to do when I get a chance…like fix my sending unit, change my belts, coolant, brake fluid, fix timing chain, etc…

And I suck @ engine bays but I’ll try to figure it out… will pm if I need help  Thanks again.

Oh and BTW my spark plugs are new.
