Carbon Fiber Parts?

I was curious if anyone knows a place, or person who does custom Carbon Fiber work… parts such as hoods, ground effects, and other random body parts??? I always liked the way carbon fiber hoods looked offset with some paint but i have never seen anything for my type of car so im just wondering if theres anyone out there that does CF work.

u drive a F-bucket…NO carbon fiber !

x2 fiberglass instead…carbon fiber is for imports.

x 10,000

carbon fiber cant rust though!!

I don’t believe fiberglass is prone to rusting. :dunno:

If you could get custom CF parts, the price would be prohibitive. You need to have a mold built, and Carbon Fiber, unlike a lot of other things, is frighteningly a “you get what you pay for” area. Hand-laid CF parts have issues, more so than fiberglass. Getting a good part generally means buying a more expensive base material known as “pre-preg,” then having a vacuum compactor and an autoclave big enough to cook your part. In short, unless a CF manufacturer has a mold for your part (or thinks it is cost-effective to make one), $$$$$.

haha well i see everyone has their own opionions on CF… but thanks for the advice poisonousbeef, its def something important i should look into.

I know larry at classy automotive makes custom CF pieces but hes moved to CO now and not in PA.

I dont know if this will help u but this guy can do any part on a quad in carbon fiber he is doing some stuff for my quad.

This is the website. http://www.k2concepts.net/home.html
And this is the quad forum where u can see his work his name on there is sand junkie he is the topic starter on most of the posts… http://www.ltr450hq.com/invision/forums/index.php?showforum=59

Yeah I don’t mean to discourage you or anything. If you find someone who really knows what they are doing you can get hand-laid CF parts that will be fine, but from what I understand it’s got a more severe learning curve than laying fiberglass so I’d be wary of anyone claiming their skill unless I could closely examine several of their parts.

In addition, be aware that real Carbon Fiber can get “UV Burn” from sun exposure (the CF turns to a grey or golden color) if it’s not coated properly. This happened to my CF hood and as far as I know there’s nothing you can do to get the color back, you just leave it faded or you paint the part.

Yeah I only looked at this for like 2 seconds but I believe he is making CF-look graphics, not actual CF parts.
