Carbon fiber

Im gunna take on doing parts in carbon fiber on my bike this off-season. Anybody got some experience that can give me some pointers?

How much weight are you planning to save with the CF parts?

Looks for the most part bro! Lol

Just get it vinyl wrapped if you’re just going for looks.

Id kinda want the real deal and real carbon looks the best. I tried getting ahold of boxer but he must be busy.

x2, just wrap it if that is the case.

Between the molds and hours involved if you’re going with a one person job the bill will be as much as the bike.

If you’re going with companies making parts who mass produce them and already have the molds you will be looking at likely about $2k+ for set of sides, tail, fender and top piece. Tank will be even more alone.

Seems like a lot of money to spend for looks.

This guy does all his own stuff for his cbr. Here’s his “How-To”:

he also sells the parts too, but he’s been MIA for a few months, hopefully he’ll be back taking orders again soon:

Yeh I’ve been following that guys build on his cbr since he started, its a pretty sick bike.

the single sided swingarm conversions that he does on his bikes is pretty freakin sweet. he should make a “how-to” for that :excited

Check out tekarbon.com they sell a bunch of parts at a decent price.

I have done carbon overlays in the past. I built a vac bagging system for it, so it holds the wet CF on the contours of the parts like a boss.

Basic idea is clean, scuff with 80 grit, clean again, hand lay wetted out CF on the part, place it in the vac bag, and suck the air out. Once it hardens, peel it all apart, shoot it with autobody clear, lots of it. once that hardens, cut and buff like you would fresh body paint.

PM me if you are interested in my services.

Krazykid is gunna try to tackle the project… Im gunna have a nice bill from him this winter for this bike lol got some powdercoating to be done as well.

+1 I have a vacuum pump. Vac bagging is the way togo.
