is there a way to get around a check engine light? like a way to shut it off so you can pass an inspection, or disconnect the light? i have been doing a lot of research on engine swaps, and the only downside is the light. most of the people who are on the sentra forums who did are in arizona, i don’t why, but they don’t need emissions. i figure the price is around $4000, and that is the same price as a turbo, and the engine is more reliable. i know about my car, but i never ripped apart the dash or gauges of any car. any serious info would be a help.
check engine light for what?
if you ‘disconnect’ the light the code is still going to show up on an inspection when they run the computer.
LOL…I think he still needs to research a bit before he gets the idea
get a o2 simulator… go read the codes… might be something stupid
agreed 100%… but good luck!
and what motor are you talking about swapping in?
whenever they swap in the v6 maxima engine into a sentra, it throughs a cel. the shop that does the swap can shut it off, but it shows up on inspection. i was wondering if there was a way to hook up a scanner or anything to figure out to remove the code. i should’ve explained more in the 1st post. sorry.
you might want to contact that shop you have been reading about and see exactly which codes they are getting. There are a lot of CEL codes.
But i’m sure someone on here will be able to figure out a way around it, once you have figured out exactly what codes you are getting.
There is probably only one or two Spec V’s and B15’s in PA w/the VQ swap… the one I know of…out in Harrisburg… drove his car down to Texas/Arizona or wherever Travis is… this is a VERY specialized swap. {not saying that someone on here couldn’t handle it or is aware of what is necc. but there is presently one company with the kit and that is commercially doing the swap} Contact them. Forced Induction racing.
Here’s the link to all the VQ info. on TheVBoard…

BTW… want to buy some 2002 Spec V rims?:bigthumb:
i am on the vboard, and its impossible to get ahold of travis. one says i’ll pass inspection, and someone else says i won’t. btw, i sent you a pm about the rims…
Here is the deal… I don’t actually know if Travis will know anything other than to tell you “find a shop that will look past that” … from what I’ve read and heard, I think that’s the only solution to date.
Travis is hard to get ahold of… he’s a one man show so to speak… He has a lot on his plate… Give him a call, the worst that he can do is not speak to you/not return your call.
I’m thinking that if you are seriously considering this… it may be worth tracking down a Nissan tuner locally and finding out if they are willing to take on the swap. By the way, if you get this done, I want a ride. This should have been the motor in the Spec V from the factory!
Eventually (it could be 5 years) I will be swapping the same motor (VQ35) in my Xterra, but I am sure we will NOT do it ourselves or outsource it. I had sent Travis an e-mail last year regarding the possibility of him preforming the swap, he did not get back to me… I will research my local alternatives as well when it comes to be…
Hopefully there are friendly shops…
Yeah I got the PM… reponded.
