Centric Brake Pad Review

So after hearing some good things on here about Centric “professional” line of ceramic pads for daily drivers I decided to order a set for the Expedition. These are the worst piece of shit pads I’ve ever used. Even after bedding in they are incapable of of getting the ABS to engage while standing on the pedal so hard I was starting to wonder if it was going to break through the firewall.

I’ve run ceramics pretty much the entire time I’ve owned the Expedition and never had issues like this.

Figured I’d give others the heads up with my personal experience because Centric was recommended in a recent thread here.

EDIT:
And no, it’s not air in the lines or anything else. The pedal is nice and high and even after a few easy stops you can smell hot pads. They’re just really shitty pads that are having to be clamped way too hard to make up for a poor friction compound.

Guess I made the good choice going with the Raybestos line instead they have been great, guess i will stick with them when I have to do my fronts.

Jay I just searched for “Centrix” and didn’t find any other occurrence on this website… Are you sure someone from here recommended them?

I’m an idiot. I spelled it wrong. It’s Centric, not Centrix.

lol, I was gonna say they sound new to me!

Yeah, I’ve always been a big fan of Raybestos and was planning on using them this time when I said, “hey, if these Centric are cheaper and recommended by some people I trust I’ll get them”. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still take Andy’s advice on car stuff because he’s a great guy and really knows cars, but I won’t be buying any more Centric stuff.

Now I’m stuck buying something local today because I don’t feel the truck is safe the way it is and want this fixed ASAP. Right now I’m leaning toward NAPA’s ceramic.

should of went with ebc greens, great pads

my stock ford pads on my edge are feeling “funny” sometimes. Im going to replace them with some Raybestos ceramics from Rock. Glad to hear the raybestos is good. Sorry to hear about your troubles

I have always had great luck with Napa’s ceramics. I use them on almost every dd that comes through my shop.

Centric is a subsidiary of Stoptech, their rotors are tits, the pads, not so much as you’ve found out.

I’ve put a ton of Centric pads on customers cars (not my choice) and have never really had any complaints. Sorry to hear you’re not happy with them.

lol, sorry man! Let me know what you end up running and if everything ends up better. I’m pretty shocked you are having issues with them. I’ve used the raysbestos in the past with no complaints, but still prefer the quality of the centric rotors for sure and I’ve had zero issues with the pads being it fitment or performance. I’ve run the ceramic ones too on heavier vehicles (jeeps, ford edge, etc) and they felt fantastic. Wonder if it’s possible you got a bad batch? Also, give rockauto a call and they will probably refund you, their customer service has been great.

I ended up ordering the Raybestos ceramic from their professional line (rockauto again) and after swapping out just the fronts the braking is 100% better. I’ll get the rears done later this week.

Rockauto issued full credit on both the front/rears and told me to not bother sending them back.

Now I’m worried about running the centric ceramics on customer cars thinking maybe they got a bad batch…damn you!

That’s super solid of RockAuto, glad to hear they took care of you.
