changing the low beam bulb on a 2000 chrysler town and country...

wow. ok, so changing a headlight bulb, especially a low beam shouldnt be too much of an issue on a 10 year old car, right? WRONG. i pop the hood and look around. there is the highbeam, cool. thats easy to get to. where is the lowbeam? hmmm. oh wow. its really in there.

so i think to myself- self, this cant be that hard of a job, can it? i must be overlooking something. i mean its only a low beam bulb, ive replaced tons of these on my cars. i take a look, and realize i need to consult the internet. well, turns out it really is a goddamn headache.

a quick google search shows me this-

You need to remove the headlight housings. The pass side is easier and more obvious so I would do that first. You’ll need a small 10mm box/open end wrench. IIRC there are 4 10mm bolts holding the housings in. On the driver side you need to remove the whole air filter housing. And you’ll see the bolts just like the pass side. The first time is a little bit of a stinker but it’s not really too bad

WOW, SWEET! you need to remove the ENTIRE HEADLIGHT in order to change a freaking bulb. this is retarded, but not a bad deal, i can do this. too bad 2 of the bolt heads broke off when i put a wrench to them, and 1 must have broken internally, because it just sat there and kept spinning and spinning

fuck this fucking car. replacing a low beam should NOT be this difficult. even if it is the “most baller of all minivans” or-

Though the Town & Country has a lofty position as the most expensive and lavish minivan, we drove the “decontented” version, the LX, which is just about identical to the Plymouth Voyager and Dodge Grand Caravan - and will be sold alongside the 2000 Chrysler Grand Voyager. This only supports our idea that Chrysler executives are not paying attention; fortunately, the engineers are…

no, theyre not. fuck this fucking car. srsly.

try changing the bulbs on a newer civic like a 05. u have to have the hands of a 5yr old to get inbetween things

but do you have to remove the entire headlight assembly to change a bulb?

2008 chevy malibu. Went to install HIDs and realized you have to remove the whole front bumper assembly. :cjerk:

on the driver side i undo the top clips to bend the light up a bit

Feelin your pain, had to do the same on my mom’s old Caravan. Thankfully we’ve moved on from that.

2006 a4- remove front bumper and headlights to change bulbs…

My m5 I need to remove the headlights only

another reason to NOT have a minivan.

A lot of newer cars require you to pull the fender well liners and front bumper. Very annoying.

what??? i call bs on that one.

Uggh, I could have told you that you’d snap off those HL bracket bolts on the mini, LOL. Thats why I love my Cherokee- replace the whole headlight, high and low beam, by removing 6 Phillips screws. Ahh, simplicity.

Unless said screws are stripped and frozen in place. This was the case on doing license plate bulbs one day before inspection on my girlfriends pos pontiac sunfire (2003)…

Nothing like drilling out screws in the parking lot.

yep, pays almost an hour WARRANTY to change one bulb. all the facelift B6’s are like this. the lens and housing dips below the bumper line to keep it from being stolen which is a huge problem in europe b/c of the HID ballasts. it’s not bad, you can just pull the inner liner screws, sneak in and get to the nuts on the side you need and pull it back a bit to release the headlight from it’s grasp. 20 minutes tops on a lift knowing what you need to do and being careful not to damage anything or scratch the paint.

What he said. But it is really BS to change the simplest things on newer vehicles.

2004 mazda 3 u have to pull the whole pumper and inner fenders off… goodyear charges 1.4 hours of labor to do it

It was a douche move putting HIDs in there to begin with.

this is a chrysler / jeep thing

especially in buffalo.

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 270k, been in buffalo most of its life. Been rebuilding it and turning it into an offroad rig. MAPP Gas is a must, EVERY bolt has too be heated before trying too remove it, and i still get ones that break. I literally have gone trough 3 cylinders of mapp gas within the past four months

my fullsize chevy was awesome, pull 2 tabs and the whole headlight assembly popped out.

It’s a Jeep thing.

oh god. i just saw this. please dont do this

do you have projectors? i bet you dont. i hate that shit so much
