Chevy 130R Concept... Mini muscle car

Gm took a 1 series and beat it with an ugly stick

A little late to the game as well. 150 hp WITH FI is laughable

Someone needs to do something, seems like everything out there now is boring, bland and looks the same.
We need more cars like this, 4cyl/6cyl/boosted, fun, budget pocket rockets, like the mid 80’s and into the early 90’s had.
Mazda GTX, Chryl. Conquest, 1st gen Eclipse/Laser/Talon, Miata, Crx, B13 Sentra SE-R, MR2, etc…

I know that its a slightly different motor but ill definately be reaching out to you when I get my ATS in a year…

I really like this concept. 10 years ago i’d much rather rock this than the cavalier I had. Now lets see if they build it.

They have plenty of 4 bangers with turbos making 270 hp in the current line up. They also have turbo 4’s that make 42 mpg.
So I am not sure why just looking at one figure it is laughable. Maybe I would agree if that was the best they could get out of a 4 pot.

I just don’t get how GM can be this late to the party (Toyota and Subaru’s joint venture is about to be released as a 2012 model) and still be so far off on weight to make it completely non-competitive. Oh wait, because it’s Government Motors and I’m sure it was another design by committee failure.

Just buy it and do it later.

that’s cool, but it really doesn’t help the fact that it still looks like a poorly done 1 series clone

I’m sick of all these new cars weighing in at 3K+ lbs.

What’s the quickest and easiest way to increase you cars PI in Forza? Weight reduction.

I think it’s slightly less ugly than a 1-series.
That said, the Caddy is 3400 lbs, with probably 7-800 pounds of heavy fancy shit in it that may never make it into this one. My tank is 4300 lbs and wouldn’t be nearly as heavy without all of the comfort accessories and such.

it’s a good idea but i can’t see american car buyers (people who buy american cars, not americans who buy cars) buying a car this small, it’s so unamerican.

clarification is on point.

Bump, saw an article today on Jalopnik. Anyone know how far along this is coming. I didn’t get a chance to do much research into it. I’m not huge into Chevy, but would be nice to see them produce a car that would challenge the likes of a BRZ/FRS

Couple quotes from autonews article today:

If GM decided to pull the trigger, it “would not do that design” seen on the Code 130R because it’s already dated, Reuss said. He also said GM likely wouldn’t build it on the Alpha rwd platform on which the Cadillac ATS rides, preferring instead to underpin it with a platform that is “really scaleable and efficient.”

It’s not on the drawing board now, Reuss says. But GM tipped its hand to the idea at the 2012 Detroit auto show, where it showed a rwd Chevy concept coupe, dubbed Code 130R.

“Really strong” feedback on the concept from young people reinforced Reuss’ desire to add something fun at the low end of Chevy’s lineup. At the time, GM executives envisioned pricing the 130R in the low- to mid-$20,000s.

They’d need to scrap it and go back to the drawing board if they want their 3400lb idea to compete with the reality that is the 2758lb FR-S.

Agreed. I think the first car I ever drew on paper looked like this. I like the idea a light weight RWD car, but the styling (so far since it’s a concept) is terrible.

I would buy a used sky before buying one of these without even thinking about it.
