I decided to make a thread about my daily driver. I have nothing better to do tonight, so here goes:
(I have all this from another forum I post on, im just copying most of it and shortening it and what not to kill some time before my medicine kicks in and I pass out :lmao )
I bought the car brand new from Denooyer Chevrolet on June 4th, 2007. It had 9, yes 9 miles on the odometer lol. Car came loaded with XM Radio, 6 disc MP3 player, pioneer 7 speaker stereo with 10" subwoofer, power sunroof, heated leather seats, limited slip diff, polished aluminum 18" wheels, and the lowprofile rear spoiler. I got it for around 21,500 after tax and other BS. MSRP on it was $24,095 :number1 Not too shabby I guess.
So here she sits, bone stock and with about 300 miles on the odometer (took it for a little cruise the past few days):
I swore up and down I would NOT mod this car. “Maybe an intake” or some tint, but nothing tooo hardcore and I would have everything done at the dealer, nothing done on my own.
Two months down the road, I get annoyed with the factory plastic pedals. I picked up a sick set of GM Performance Parts Aluminum pedals and throw em on there. Much better I think:
I also did the “airbox mod” at that time. It utilizes the factory CAI and replaces the restrictive airbox with an AEM dryflow cone filter. The result = more airflow and a LOUD blower whine, even with the stock supercharger pulley and open silencer holes.
November 2007: Off to college I go, and away the car goes under the cover
December 2007: Get bored from winter break, decide to paint the calipers (which need to be redone right now BTW lol)
February 2008: Sick and tired of wheel hop, so I bought an Ingalls Torque Damper to help (but not eliminate) with this issue. It gets rid of i’d say about 80% of wheel hop, but its still there (mostly at the track).
Also had the car dyno’d at Synapse. It was bone stock (minus the airbox mod). Heres what it made at the wheels:
10,000 miles already. :shifty
July 08: Pull the blower off for some porting, as well as plugged the silencer holes. The blower really whines, and it’s still on the stock pulley at this point :excited
October 2008: 22k on the ODO. Polished Modular Stage 3 supercharger pulley is installed
, GM 42# injectors installed
and car is tuned (VERY conservatively, used most of the GM stage 2 tune file with mild alterations) via HP tuners. Also bought 17" SS Non-Supercharged wheels and threw some Blizzak WS-50’s on them. Just in time for winter.
January 2009: Tinted the windows 20% all around
I also managed to get the car stuck in a giant snowbank/off road path:
It was stuck so bad that Sully’s Explorer got stuck trying to free it. :rofl After about 2 hours of shoveling, pushing, and heave-ho ing (and with the help of a lifted Ram with chains), the Cobalt was free again.
Yep, that’s snow all over the rear of the car. Daily driver = driving 60 miles one way and back in a snow storm. I am an avid skiier, so with this car being my daily, it goes on ski trips often in the winter months. Snow tires ftw!
-I also believe 5k HID’s were added at this point as well as 3k (non-HID) yellow fogs. The stock bulbs suck balls, and I drive a LOT at night, so these were a wise investment. They came with a free set of LED reverse lights and LED map lights, so I put those in for the hell of it. They look pretty neat at night.
March 2009: ZZP Midlength header
, 3" ZZP downpipe w/ Magnaflow high flow cat
(stock vs. ZZP)
-My little brother and I got bored one night, so we smoked some green plant that made us feel all funny and decided to hard-wire my radar. No more ugly cord running down the center console anymore (been like that for almost 2 years).
^In Manhattan at 5AM on a Saturday morning. haha
April 2009
The factory Pirelli’s were bald as shit, so I replaced them with 4 General Exclaim UHP’s in 225-40-18 trim
May 2009
I had Synapse fabricate me a custom 2.5" catback utilizing the OEM resonator and muffler for less noise and rasp. Sounds absolutely amazing and is quiet, but when you floor it it gets (somewhat) loud. I love it.
Also debaged the rear chevy emblem, all supercharged emblems, GM emblems, and SS emblem on the trunk. The only emblems I have are SS on the two doors and the front chevy bowtie, and of course this:
June 2009
Painted my headlight housings black. My one headlamp was fogging up, so I took them apart and re-did them.
I also have been going back and forth about lowering (Eibach Sportlines), but I don’t think it’s necessary. It sits low enough (a lot lower than my friends Redline with the same FE5 suspension), it rides nice for having 18" low pros and stiff suspension, and I drive it in winter (and it sucks dick in deep snow because its so low already). That and I am too cheap to buy the springs, and too lazy to put them in, so that’s just not going to work. :rofl
