interesting move…
Holy shit. I think I might go look at Chrysler’s now. That is one hell of an incentive to buy a car now.
Not a bad idea, granted you’ll probably ending up saving less than a $300 to $1000 a year based on gas prices a year even if prices happen to hit $5 a gallon. It’s a good way to draw attention and generate some sales, besides the common cash-back offers.
I love all the people who think this will make chrysler broke or think this is some amazing deal… the reality is that it’s nothing special, but still nice.
I think I read some analysts valued this at $3000-$6000 best case.
they’re just buying the service from pricelock.com
i’ll have to say thats original…but will it work for them?
considering the average person things the fuel tax suspension is a good idea… yea, im sure this will help a tad
still wouldnt buy a chrysler
Something tells me all the other car manufacturers are going to jump the bandwagon…which isn’t a bad idea especially if they offer it mainly for the higher mpg models.
So in 2 years when your Dodge Ram transmission is falling apart at least you’ll only be paying 2.99 for the gas you put in it!
It’s a cool gimmick, and will bring stupid people into the dealership. If you’re selling a product that was all over the worst cars list this year you do what you can to draw stupid people into the dealership. That’s the demographic who buys cars that are the worst cars list.
^ agreed. Its sad that the majority of Americans are this stupid.
Basically they’re taking the rebates that most American car companies are offering and betting that gas will come down (based on fed moves on rates, overvaluation of oil by investors etc).
If they’re wrong they’re just giving you the rebate they would have given you anyway, and if they’re right you paid retail and they made big profits. Plus if they’re wrong they get to spred that rebate out over 3 years instead of giving it to you up front at purchase time.
Chryslers CAFE (corporate average fuel economy) is what, about 23mpg?
So 12000 miles / 23mpg = 521 gallons @ 2.99 = $1560 in gas.
@$4 = $2086
Savings of $1580 over 3 years.
Take the $2000 cash incentive most dealers offer on new cars, invest it and get 10% a year, and at the end of 3 years you have $2700.
But yeah, run right out and buy a Chrysler.
Where’s j_espo? He seems to think gas is going to be $10 a gallon in 3 years. Maybe he’s at the dealership signing the paperwork on a new Charger.
Gas is the hot topic now so it’s just a publicity stunt even though it is nice incentive. Who knows…in 3 years gas could be $10 a gallon.
the government should just cap the gas prices at 2.50 max.
Trust me even if exxon said they wouldnt sell gas to america, the other gas companys would jump on to continue getting rich.
but lets remember, chrysler is buying this service from a 3rd party company. Chrysler is not risking anything because they pay for the service up front.
any car company or fleet car do the same thing by contacting pricelock.com
so there is Zero risk for chrysler - it’s pricelock that gets screwed if gas his $10/gallon.
.
If that asshat Nardelli has anything to do with this there will be a catch. Guy is nothing but trouble.
Interesting idea, people will be jumping over each other to buy a piece of shit chrysler vehicle.
Honestly, if gas goes up to 4 bucks a gallon, the automaker pays $1 per gallon. If you buy 20 gallons a week, thats $1040 per year from the automaker.
They probably require you to service the vehicle at their dealer to get the card, and they probably limit it to a certain amount of miles per year, and they only do it for a few years when the car is new.
Basically it will be like getting a discount on their overpriced service…
A lot of people will fall for it.
