Just wondering if this is happening to anyone else.
You all should know how cold it’s been lately, but on the coldest days (like yesterday) the clutch and the shifter has been really stiff when I leave my car out for about 8-9 hours or so. The shifter itself barely moves, and the clutch doesn’t come up as fast it normally does. But when I drive it for a while everything sorta goes back to normal (sort of).
Is this something normal, or should I have some fluids changed?
it is normal for the shifter and clutch to get stiffer and slower because the cold weather causes the fluid to become more dense, but after driving for a bit it should go back to normal. you can change the fluid to adjust to the weather, i’ll see if i can pull up the chart.
a couple times this year when ive went out in the morning at it was -30 ive had to sit in the with the clutch in cause the fluids in the tranny are so thick that even out of gear the damn thing will try and drive
That was happening to me every day in my fastback last winter… the
clutch moved slow, and the gears were hard to get into. The clutch part
you cant do much about cause it uses brake fluid. But change the gear
oil to a lower viscosity rating.
Check your slave line for signs of cracks or other failure. A little moisture in the clutch line can freeze up your pedal in a heartbeat … but if your shifter is stuck, swap to a synthetic gear oil. (it’s not fluid in a manual)
Odds are it’s time for an oil/filter change on your tranny anyway.
